- We serve the public in many different ways, including:
- Providing primary medical, dental, substance abuse, mental health and social services to residents, including the uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved, and administering federal, state, and local public assistance programs
- Providing law enforcement services in the unincorporated area of the county
- Protecting the community from public health threats such as communicable diseases
- Coordinating countywide responses to domestic violence and terrorism or other emergencies
- Managing the criminal justice process after arrest (jail, prosecution, defense, probation)
- Supporting other local governments through efficient property tax collection as mandated by the State, County and local jurisdictions; and,
- Administration and enforcement of Federal, State, and Local laws and policies pertaining to environmental health, building construction, and land use planning.
The Position
Social Services Workers perform a wide variety of duties in support of agency programs and operations including home visits to clients, case review and monitoring, and coordination of services to clients; provide education, information, referral and case file maintenance; and functions as a liaison between community residents and program staff.
This position provides entry into higher level classes in the mental health, substance abuse, and social services fields. Incumbents provide a variety of support services to clients in various, social services programs. While the work may vary depending upon the program to which assigned, all assignments include recognizing potential problems or emergency situations, utilizing use of agency or community resources and performing office support and record keeping tasks in support of the programs. Assignments are characterized by the provision of services in support of professionals within the program to which assigned.
The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.
A new vacancy is currently available in the Probation Department. This position will serve clients who need intensive support to access treatment, engage in services and connect with resources. This hard to serve population of probation clients are often struggling with homelessness and addiction. This position will support the department and the Probation Officers in engaging clients to participate in treatment. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the community with marginalized populations, be comfortable with people who are justice involved, and understand the barriers to successful reentry after a period of incarceration.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Two years of experience in a health, social services or community organization that has included assisting case management staff in the provision of health, substance abuse or social services to a varied population of clients and service providing staff.
- Successful completion of the coursework from a recognized college, university or business school in health science, behavioral science and/or social services is highly desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Driver's License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C Driver's License is a cause for discipline. Individuals who do not meet this driver's license requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis.
- Depending on assignment, applicants/incumbents must demonstrate skill in driving a private passenger automobile or van in all types of weather and traffic conditions.
- Language Proficiency: Some positions may require bilingual skills.

BENEFITS
Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage is $1900.58 per month for 2023. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.
Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.
Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.
The County observes 12 full fixed and 2 half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive 2 floating paid holidays per year.
Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.
Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Sick Leave for every full hour worked.
