This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Full-Time position working 8 hours per day, 12 months per year. Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation, performs skilled painting work in protecting and decorating the surfaces of buildings, furniture, and equipment; performs related duties as assigned; may perform general maintenance duties and assist other skilled maintenance personnel by performing unskilled and semiskilled duties in other maintenance areas. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimming, fixtures, buildings, and other structures; smooths surfaces using sandpaper, brushes or steel wool; removes old paint and graffiti from surfaces using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or paint burner; prepares surfaces for painting; fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster or other filler; selects pre-mixed paints or prepares paint to match specified colors by mixing required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances; paints surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers; creates special effects by applying paint with various equipment and tools; keeps simple records; and drives a District vehicle or truck. OTHER TYPICAL DUTIES: Paints signs; repairs wallpaper or fabric covering; supervises students or other employees as assigned by supervisor; and operates a forklift. Assists the skilled maintenance worker in the following areas: constructing and repairing structural woodwork and equipment; building, repairing and installation of counters, floors or other building framework; installing glass; replacing damaged ceiling and floor tile; installing cabinets and shelves; installing window accessories; and in masonry work. High school graduation or equivalent and two years of full-time paid experience as a painter - or - such alternatives that the Personnel Commission may find desirable. License: A valid Class C California Driver License. Certificate: Must obtain within 90 days of employment an OSHA Certificate for the operation of a forklift; thereafter must maintain certificate. Other: A DMV driving report is required at time of application.
