Job Description
The responsibility of the Shop Manager is to supervise a team of technicians, manage jobs issued to the shop floor, and perform fabrication tasks. The position requires strong attention to detail, experience in managing a team, and a commitment to complete tasks on time.
ABOUT THE JOB
The ideal candidate for this role is able to move about the manufacturing facility, and vacuum brazing area, plan, organize and attend meetings, as well as attend to various issues on the shop floor. A blend of ‘hands-on’ manufacturing, training, creating documentation, and process implementation experience is preferred. The ability to move about the manufacturing facilities to attend to the shop, and vacuum brazing area; access files/storage, office equipment, computers, and other productivity devices; plan, organize, and attend meetings; and attend to various issues on the shop floor is required. Using a computer while sitting for extended periods is common, though most time will be spent in the manufacturing area, where eye, ear, and other protection (safety gear) are required.
Job Characteristics
- Manage day-to-day fabrication operations
- Manage shop floor cleanliness
- Manager drivers/shipments for job site deliveries
- Manage materials/inventory that is being received in the warehouse
- Manage on-time job completion (machining, CNC, panel wall saw, etc.)
- Manage three or more fabricators
- Manage work orders from Lead Drafter
- Manage maintenance and basic repair of shop machinery
- Execute work instructions provided by the office team
- Recommend & implement manufacturing process improvements
- Perform hands-on fabrication tasks
- Generate shop working instructions
- Ensure a safe work environment by implementing and following safety policies and procedures
Experience
- Shop Floor Management: 5+ years (Preferred)
- Managing a Team in a Related Industry: 5 years (Preferred)
- Reading Architectural shop drawings/plans (Preferred)
- Forklift Certified
- Strong Leadership & Management Skills
- Must be able to lift above 20-30 pounds consistently
- Must be able to wear PPE (mask, gloves, protective eyewear)
- Must be able to work in hot and cold conditions
- Must have the basic tools needed to perform the job.
