Job Summary: The associate is responsible for the efficient and accurate processing, sorting, distribution, and delivery of incoming and outgoing mail and packages within the organization. This role ensures that mail and packages reach the correct recipients in a timely manner providing great customer service to clients. The associate will also handle creating labels, packaging and processing of outbound shipments. This shipping clerk needs to have the ability to take and pass (or already possess) their dangerous goods shipping certificate (49 CFR & IATA). This position will also be asked to drive company vans to multiple office campuses to pick up/deliver mail on a scheduled route.
What is 49 CFR/IATA? This is a course for shippers who prepare ground and air shipments. Clerks who prepare and sign shipping papers for transport are responsible for classifying hazardous products and understand how to read and interpret the regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, sort, scan, track and deliver all classes of US mail and accountable packages from various carriers such as FedEx, UPS, Amazon, etc. along with coordinating and processing outbound mail/packages using specialized software
- Research and route unidentified and generic mail
- Coordinate and process customized packaging and other customer special requests
- Maintain accurate records of customers' inquiries and fulfillment of requests
- Follow all processes established in the client standard operating procedures
- Monitor Incoming and Outgoing packages for hazardous and suspicious materials
- Process Hazmat shipments as indicated by FAA & IATA regulations
- Promptly informs supervisor of protentional problems or customer concerns
- Manage supplies and mail center inventory
- Perform multiple daily walkthroughs of facility to check supply stock and cleanliness expectations
- Maintain a clean work area that promotes safety and professionalism
- Monitor postage usage and refill postage meter
- Maintain mail lists
- Work flexible shifts when required
- Drive company van on campus and to local offices (20-30 mile radius)
- Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma; College Degree is a plus
- Valid/Clean Class C Driver’s License
- Displays a client first mentality, and professionalism in appearance and demeanor
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Dangerous Goods Shipping Certificate Preferred
- Hazmat training required
- Excellent time management skills, and ability to multi-task
- Adheres to all procedures and guidelines
- Prove flexible when faced with deadlines and challenges
- Maintains a positive, helpful attitude in busy environments
- Ability to remain on your feet for many hours
- Proven customer service-related experience
- Competent computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.) or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
- Ability to effectively work both individually and in a team environment
- Ability to solo lift to 40 pounds
