- Oversees all aspects of plant operations on shift
- Gives work direction to the operators on shift, directing all operators during startups, shutdowns and emergencies
- Evaluates operator job performance
- May approve and issue work orders
- Ensures unit operates within environmental, health and safety compliance; identifies potential unit problems and takes action to prevent incidents and accidents, reports any environmental incidents to HES and appropriate supervision, and participates in timely incident and accident investigations and follows up on assigned actions, if required
- Acts as an Incident or On-scene Commander depending on location in the Operations Manager/SuperintendentâÂÂs absence
- May review lab results and on stream analyzers to ensure quality products, and daily oil flow targets with crew to identify daily limits; coordinate troubleshooting to solve operating problems; and proactively review oil flow plan and adjust current operation as necessary
- May ensure operators perform PM/Pump Rotations and area has equipment ready for maintenance as planned, support resolution of process and mechanical issues, and team in establishing shutdown scopes
- May ensure compliance with reviews concerning critical and normal standard operating procedures, and recording of on-shift event documentation in unit logbook; maintain organized filing system to keep up-to-date records, complete reports, schedules, etc., on time and accurately; and monitor inventories of supplies and reorder as necessary
- May minimize costs for running area, assuming shared responsibility for meeting Operations and Maintenance expense budgets; take action on or give suggestions to supervision on cost-saving opportunities, optimize the cost efficiency for running the unit, and develop and implement opportunities to control/reduce overtime
