We are seeking a full time Senior Underwriter, Ocean Marine to join the Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services (SIS) division in our Schaumburg, IL office.
Job Profile
- Work with underwriting team on production and review of new and renewal insurance business
- Manage and evaluate new and renewal business to ensure risk quality including:
- Ratings
- Claims
- Catastrophe Management
- Use underwriting standards and guidelines across assigned business line
- Request peer reviews (internal audits) and refer business out of authority to foster consistent and profitable risk selection
- Collaborate in your business approach by communicating with peers, identifying profit and loss trends on your assigned business to drive department profitability goals
- Build, foster and maintain internal and external relationships
- Monitor client needs, insurance market developments and economic changes to ensure future planning aligns with long-range business growth goals
- Seek and engage with team leadership to enhance personal capabilities
- Produce/manage book of business by accepting or rejecting accounts based on sound underwriting judgement; effectively manage own assigned agents/brokers/accounts
- Meet with agents/brokers and insureds in order to build business partnerships and relationships
- Responsible for own production goals
Job Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years US Ocean and Inland/relevant experience
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of underwriting standards
- Ability to travel occasionally within US and assigned region to maintain business partnerships and relationships
