Responsible for evaluating and approving Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) Order Requests and determining the appropriate Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs) to assign for identified health conditions specified on order requests per the contract requirements. Review Compensation & Pension (C&P) request documents and claims file for completion of the claims file outline to facilitate LHI providers in location of pertinent information to ensure timely review and accurate completion of Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs). Collaborate with various subject matter experts in the department to ensure system generated tasks are completed in a timely manner and within the quality standards. Follow the established guidelines for monitoring and managing the prioritization of order related tasks in order to meet or exceed contractual requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and process order requests
  • Ongoing communication within the VA Clinical Operations Department to ensure order requests meet contractual requirements prior to approval
  • Create an outline of relevant medical documentation found within the claims file to assist LHI providers in performing accurate, timely Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs)
  • Willingness to assist with provider questions via a department phone queue or any form of communication, as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED (or higher) or equivalent experience.
  • Vocational or Technical Training/Education in a Medical related field such as Medical Assistant, LPN, Health Information Technology (HIT), EMT, Medic, Corpsman, completion of the LHI Clinical or Claims Upskilling course or completion of the following 4 courses: Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Human Body Systems, and Common Diseases
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience and/or applicable military experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of medical documentation and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of healthcare documentation to include medical, behavioral, and psychological terminology
  • Experience using a computer and Microsoft Word(abilityto create, copy, edit, send, and save documents)
  • Microsoft Excel(abilityto create, copy, edit, send, and save spreadsheets)
  • Microsoft Outlook (abilityto create, copy, edit, send, and save correspondence)

Soft Skills:

  • Must possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, as well as multi-tasking and teamwork skills
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Must be able to implement problem solving skills to facilitate timely completion of required responsibilities for a wide range of cases and duties

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
