Navistar has a great opportunity for a Technical Specialist - Controls Design on our Vehicle and Powertrain Controls Software team.
The Team is responsible for electronic controls and software requirements, design, coding, testing, software integration and releases.
This Technical specialist position is part of Application software team developing Controls and Software logic for all Navistar owned ECU applications including Electrification, ADAS systems, Engine Controls, Powertrain Controls, Body Controls, Chassis Controls, Predictive Cruise Controls and Instrument Cluster, etc.
Responsibilities- Technical specialist leading the controls and software requirement, design, development and verification of Electric Vehicle domain functions and Driver Assistance and Autonomy Systems functions
- Development of Controls requirements and controls DFMEA
- Development of controls software requirements, design, simulation, and tests of various electronic control systems
- Development of controls algorithms utilizing embedded software development process
- Development of appropriate documentation to support process compliance
- Utilization of controls software tools and processes
- Functional verification/testing of developed design using data-replay/plant based closed-loop simulation techniques/ proto software test at HIL/engine dyno/vehicle
- Analysis and reviews of controls requirements, software design/algorithms, software test results for Navistar in house and vendor software
- Work in a team and leads to the continuous improvement activities through participation in Lean projects, KPAC, process improvements, etc.
- Problem solving and implementing solutions to the control's software issues
- Provides problem resolution leadership for complex control's software issues
- Lead reviews of team members work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient software
- Train, mentor and develop team members on Electric Vehicle controls and software domain functions and Driver Assistance and Autonomy Systems functions
- Use systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of software requirements, architecture, design, and verification that impact the quality and performance of software
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

- Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
OR
- PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

- Embedded software development experience
- Experience with Electric Vehicle Controls System design
- Experience in Drivers Assistance Systems, Autonomous Vehicles Controls System design
- Experience with Engineering tool Matlab, Simulink, MS Visio, INCA calibration tool, Software configuration management tools
- Experience with Software programming language such as C/C++, embedded software development and testing tools (Canalyzer, HILs, etc.)
- Experience with plant model, simulation and integration of HIL environments
- Experience with Functional simulation of developed design using data-replay or plant based closed-loop simulation techniques
- Experience with Vehicle, Powertrain or Engine Controls System design
- Experience with requirement documentation and system engineering
- Experience with engineering and quality design and development methodologies: (8D, FMEA, DVP&R)
- Experience in functional areas, such as Cybersecurity, Electric Vehicle Electronics, Autonomous Electronics (Radar, Lidar, Camera, Autonomous processor, etc.), Functional Safety (ISO26262), Vehicle Communications and Network, AUTOSAR Software, Telematics Software, Instrument Cluster software
- CAN and/or J1939 and/or ISO 14229 UDS experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively and establish good working relationships across departments
