RoleOur team is building assistive intelligence experiences (AIEs), which leverage machine learning to help Splunk users obtain value from their data. As a senior principal software engineer on our team, you will drive the architecture and implementation of the applications that we build, which range from Splunk apps to SaaS products.
ResponsibilitiesYou will:
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and technical program management to determine requirements for and design AIE applications
- Decompose complex and ambiguous problems into manageable units of work for junior engineers
- Provide technical leadership for engineers and applied researchers, including code and design reviews
- Ensure scalability, fault tolerance, and interactive response time for our team's applications
This role involves a multi-office, multi-location development environment; prior experience working with local and remote teams is a plus. While experience with products involving applications of machine learning models within enterprise software is highly desirable, it is not required.
Required Skills- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline with 12+ years software engineering experience; Master's degree with 8+ years experience; or a PhD with 5+ years experience
- Expertise in CS fundamentals such as concurrency, data structures, algorithms
- Expertise in building scalable, highly-available, performant code with Python / FastAPI
- Experience developing and productionizing test automation and complex CI/CD pipelines
- Expertise in deploying and operating containerized services on K8s
- Experience navigating compliance processes (e.g., OSS vulnerability scanning)
- Expertise in developing software on a public cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience using PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks
- Experience with stream processing technology (Pulsar, Kafka, AWS Kinesis)
- Ability to communicate constructively with researchers and engineers from an academic background

Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out below, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and benefits, and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.

Base Pay Range
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay Range: $230,400 - 316,800 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay Range: $204,000 - 280,500 per year
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay Range: $184,000 - 253,000 per year
