Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Water Division ensures a safe and reliable water supply for all of Orange County Utilities’ customers. The Water Division operates three regional water supply facilities and nine satellite water supply facilities that collectively produce approximately 60 million gallons per day.
Water Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of On-Call Senior Laboratory Technician. This is an on-call position responsible for sample analysis of microbial contaminants by approved EPA or Standard Method procedures. Work is performed with considerable independence and the exercise of independent judgment under the general supervision of the department manager or other designed supervisor.
Representative Duties
- Performs a full range of duties characteristic of an environmental analytical laboratory, analyzing microbiology samples for total coliform, fecal coliforms and E. coli.
- Preparing media, reagents, and maintaining sufficient supplies to perform analyses.
- Participating in duties related to the cleanliness of the workspace; washing glassware, equipment maintenance, etc.
- Posting data in LIMS and review results to ensure Quality Assurance compliance.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental science or other closely related field.
Preferences
- Experience with NELAP/TNI Accredited environmental laboratory.
- Experience in laboratory techniques for detection of total coliforms and fecal coliforms.
- Experience with analytical equipment and laboratory record keeping.
- Computer experience, including working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing programs.

Hours per week: 20
Working Hours: Monday – Friday / 8:00am – 4:30pm The department operates 7 days a week; candidates must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed.
This is an On Call position with a maximum of 1200 work hours per fiscal year. This position is not eligible for benefits.
