Caterpillar's Electrification + Advanced Power Solutions Division is looking for a Senior Engineering Specialist to join the Power Electronic Systems & Component team! This exciting position will be joining an innovative team on the cutting edge of electric drive technology. You will have the unique opportunity to direct and ensure the proper concept, design and development of the complex, power electronic components. This role is a recognized leader and authority in power electronics mechanical design and packaging, development of high value components and will support a multifunctional, global team responsible for the development of low voltage, medium voltage & supplier designed power electronic components.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Providing global leadership and expertise in Power Electronics mechanical design
  • Staying abreast of emerging power electronics technologies in the industry and apply accordingly
  • Actively engaging in competitive benchmarking activities and supplier evaluations that enable or support Caterpillar's power electronics product lines
  • Leading and/or supporting key New Technology Introduction (NTI) projects that align with and enable power electronics product line development that meets customer and business critical requirements
  • Engaging in all power electronic component New Product Introduction (NPI) programs to ensure adherence to design aspects of the workflow process
  • Conducting table top design reviews and formal NPI design reviews
  • Actively supporting current production issue resolution in support of field issue resolution and CPI issue resolution.
  • Creating, maintaining and ensuring adherence to key power electronic component design guides and books of knowledge.
  • Consulting and supporting execution of power electronics global product development best practices including design, Virtual Product Development (VPD), test and validation.
  • Providing technical coaching and mentoring on a regular basis across the global development team.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited program
  • 15+ years' experience with progressively responsible product, component development experience
  • Power electronics component, electronic and/or electrical component mechanical design and development experience
  • Experience with electronic component manufacturing and supply chain
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical design practices & materials science.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills & collaborative interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of DfX including manufacturing, cost and supply chain
  • Experience with quality tools including FMEA, APQP & PPAP

  • This position is a hybrid role with 25% of work performed in Mossville, IL - providing flexibility and freedom to work from a location away from the office, while also enabling the opportunity to collaborate in person as needed.
