The Senior Director, Privacy will use his or her understanding of privacy law, the biopharmaceutical industry, and Blueprint Medicines' business to provide strategic direction to the organization regarding existing and emerging privacy and data protection laws. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Healthcare Law & Compliance, the Privacy will oversee all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation and maintenance of the company's privacy policies and programs in accordance with applicable laws. What will you do?
- Maintain a strategic and comprehensive global privacy program to enable consistent, effective data privacy practices, minimize privacy risk, and to ensure the appropriate management of personal information.
- Working closely with the Head of Information Systems, the Data Privacy Task Force, Legal team members, and other individuals with privacy and data handling responsibilities in the organization, develop global and regional approaches to complex privacy matters involving systems, processes and data handling activities.
- Collaborate with the Information Systems (IS) function to ensure alignment between data security and privacy programs including policies, practices, investigations.
- Establish, with IS and Legal teams, systems to track, investigate and report inappropriate or unauthorized access, loss or disclosure of personal data.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all facets of the privacy program to ensure privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed.
- Initiate and facilitate activities to foster data privacy awareness within the organization.
- Maintain a solid understanding of applicable global data privacy and security laws, accreditation standards and enforcement actions to identify emerging risks, keep teams advised, and implement or revise policies, procedures and training programs, as appropriate.
- This position may require periodic domestic and international travel.
What minimum qualifications do we require?
- Law degree (J.D.)
- 10+ years' experience in the privacy profession.
What additional qualifications will make you a stronger candidate?
- Thorough understanding of privacy laws related to the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience with building and implementing a global privacy program.
- Sound judgment, high integrity, and dedication to ethical conduct.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience at a biopharmaceutical company strongly preferred.
- Privacy Professional certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/M, CIPP/EU, etc.).
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional teams with a pragmatic approach and a positive attitude in a results-driven, highly accountable environment.
- Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of the organization with both the self-confidence necessary to set forth opinions even in the face of contrary views and the humility needed to be receptive to the ideas and opinions of others.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and pay close attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills and ability to multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment while still meeting high quality and timeliness standards.
- Self-motivated and independent team member who constantly seeks, designs, and implements improvements.
- Ability to manage outside counsel effectively and efficiently (on the limited occasions when used) and adhere to a budget.
