Senior Data Engineer

Nakupuna Consulting is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to enhance and maintain a Government Agency’s mission critical data sets.  The Data Engineer will be primarily responsible for understanding the agency’s existing data architecture and solutioning how best to integrate new datasets and better visualize existing datasets using the suite of current data tools (QLIK and AWS).  To do this, the Data Engineer will work directly with the agency’s Chief Data Officer and a team of 4 - 7 Nakupuna Data Analysts/Technicians to advise and solution new data requirements, and to implement those solutions using an Agile framework.  The Data Engineer will be expected to have a foundational knowledge of the Artificial Intelligence tools offered by the AWS suite, and how those tools can be leveraged to facilitate new data set ingest and cleansing of existing data sets.

• Work within an agile framework to gather requirements from the customer, document requirements in the form of User Stories, and implement those requirements within a sprint
• Lead solutioning for data integration needs between Mission Critical Applications (including Documentum, Salesforce, StarLIMS, and QLIK, ArcGIS)
• Document To-Be and/or As-Is Data Architecture as required
• Present completed work to stakeholders and users during sprint demonstrations
• Advise and Solution ways to use AWS AI tools for Optical Character Recognition and Natural Language Processing needs, to support ingestion of new data sets or cleansing of existing data sets
• Develop data visualizations to help users understand Mission Critical data sets and expose data cleansing/data quality improvement needs
  • Ideally, the candidate will have experience building dashboards with QLIK
• Write SQL scripts to support ETL or ingestion needs
• Leverage tools like Python to structure/cleanse large datasets
• Ensure datasets are compliant within DOD and Agency's guidelines for handling CUI and other Classified information
• Translate customer's data into consumable visualizations, enabling decision making and strategic planning
• Conduct various software tests to ensure data consistency, quality, and performance. Perform data quality control by editing, identifying empty values, and flagging false positives to maintain data integrity

Education and Experience:

• Education:
• Required: BA/BS, preferably in computer science, science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), or 5+ years documented experience in addition to the requirements within this description.

  • 3+ years of data modeling experience
  • Nice to have:
  • A master’s degree or eight years of relevant professional experience in computer science or developing and managing a dashboard tool or similar database application.

    • AWS Certified Machine Learning Certification or other comparable certification
    • Nice to have:
    • Cyber Security Workforce (CSWF) Information Assurance Technology (IAT) Level I

Clearance Requirements: A DoD Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one is preferred. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
