University of Iowa Health Care Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to work closely with our clinical research and data analysis teams to gather, analyze, and interpret complex healthcare data sets under supervision from senior data scientists and research managers. This position is responsible for extracting relevant data from relational database systems in clinical data warehouses using SQL and applying your expertise in statistical analysis by using R, Python, or similar tools, and contributing to research studies at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the Iowa City Veteran Affairs Medical Center. The successful candidate will be passionate about data, possess strong analytical skills, and be adept at working collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Analysis: Utilize R (or similar programming languages) to clean, preprocess, and analyze large and diverse datasets to extract meaningful insights.
Relational Database Expertise: Design and optimize SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and transform data from relational databases and other data sources (ETL).
Statistical Modeling: Apply statistical techniques (linear regression, logistic regression, and other related regression-based methods) to assess associations and build prediction models.
Data Visualization: Create clear and insightful data visualizations to communicate research findings effectively.
Collaborative Research: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify research objectives, develop hypotheses, and contribute to research studies.
Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, summaries, and outcomes findings for preparations of manuscripts and presentations.
Data Quality Assurance: Ensure data quality and integrity through data validation, cleaning, and error detection.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest developments in data science, statistical analysis, and relevant technologies.
Leadership: Contribute ideas. Seek ways to improve assigned processes. Provide training and share insights with customers on data analytics and reporting. May provide functional supervision; provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and consulting to ensure outcomes are achieved.
The department intends to hire for one position as either a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, requisition 23005441, or Business Intelligence Architect, requisition 23005440, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Education Required
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience Requirements:
- 3-5 years' experience in data analysis using software/language such as R or similar.
- Statistical modeling such as generalized linear regression analysis.
- Proficiency in SQL for data retrieval and manipulation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Strong data visualization skills using tools like ggplot2, Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent
- Experience with machine learning and predictive modeling is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
