UNDER THE SUPERVISON OF A LICENSED SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
Common to all MBAEA Licensed Employees:
All licensed MBAEA employees are expected to demonstrate through work actions, work products, and outcomes the following:
- All Iowa Teaching Standards and Alternative AEA Criteria.
- Improved teaching and learning in schools/districts assigned resulting from programs and/or services provided.
- Continuous improvement of professional practice through collaborative teams and individual study.
- Effective design and/or delivery of professional development for Agency and LEA staff and administration.
- Successful problem solving in the prevention and resolution of conflicts.
- Use of data to inform and advance teaching and learning.
- An awareness, understanding, and/or working knowledge of:
- Iowa Core
- Tiered Intervention Systems
- Iowa Professional Development Model
- Child Find process and procedures
- Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Service on committees, projects, leadership groups and other activities as determined by the Agency and their supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Common to all Special Education Licensed Employees:
- Focus AEA services on three student-related core functions (including academic and behavioral issues):
- Child Find-Screening
- Child Find-Evaluation and Planning
- Support and/or implementation of IFSP/IEP Services
- Provide systems level support for school improvement.
- Support procedural compliance.
- Improve student achievement through consultation and coaching with teachers, school leaders, and families.
Specific Responsibilities - School Social Worker:
- Function as a liaison between schools, families, and community to assist in the areas of child protection, homeless, and mental health.
- Provide developmentally appropriate mental health services (focused on individuals with IEPs), including behavioral coaching, classroom and school-wide social-emotional learning programs.
- Support school crisis teams, use data based decision-making methods, and problem-solvingstrategies. Provide response and recovery to students/building/district crisis through consultation, collaboration, and direct services.
