Sample Receipt Technician

Incorporated in 1988, Environmental Service Laboratories, Inc. (ESL) is an environmental testing laboratory that provides its clientele with a comprehensive range of analytical testing and field sampling services. ESL is accredited to test drinking water, wastewater, soil, solid materials and natural gas.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Sample Management Technician you will Follow all laboratory policies and procedures, including safety requirements. Prepare bottle orders as necessary, prepare and package send-out samples for analysis, analyze pH and specific conductance, prepare chain of custody paperwork as required, labels and distribute samples to the appropriate departments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Empties incoming samples from coolers.
2. Constant communication with project managers is essential.
3. Helps coordinate incoming work with the project managers.
4. Keep inventory.
5. Verifies COC with incoming samples.
6. Records and analyzes temperatures and preservation of incoming samples.
7. Prepares chain of custody paper work as required.
8. Labels and distributes samples to appropriate departments.
9. Performs other projects as required.
10. Comply with safety rules and regulations to include determining proper handling procedures of samples.
WORKING CONDITIONS
90% of time spent in laboratory environment, with balance of time spent in office work environment, with potential exposure to moving machinery, dust, noise, temperature changes, and hazardous chemicals. Due to nature of position, must be able to deal with frequent interruptions. Some PPE required. Work schedule may alternate with varying work hours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Basic PC skills, including Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook, including strong attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication and effective listening skills. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be capable of performing under pressure and in stressful conditions. While performing duties of job, incumbent is required to stand; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Must be able to lift, push or carry a minimum of 50 lbs. at waist to shoulder height frequently. Must have ability to effectively verbally communicate with clients and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent, some college credits in science related field helpful but not required.
