Job description

Position Summary

The Safety and Resource Coordinator is the initial point of contact for employees, in-person members and visitors of Outside In, stationed near the building entrance. The position provides basic customer service, including information about Outside In and work that is conducted in the organizations facilities. Visitors, contractors, and deliveries are directed to the proper location in a prompt and courteous manner, consistent with our organizational values.

This position also serves as the initial point of contact for safety assessment for people and objects entering Outside In facilities. An ideal candidate is someone who has experience with de-escalation tactics, and can be even-keeled and nonaggressive when diffusing high-stress interactions/environments. In the event that an individual becomes uncooperative, disruptive and/or threatens to or becomes violent, this position is equipped to attempt de-escalation. If the incident continues to evolve, this position will make the first call to law enforcement, engage with public safety onsite and activate safety/locking procedures.

Essential Duties

  • Greet and direct participants, contractors, and visitors across Outside In.
  • Provide participants with professional, timely and inclusive service; informing team members of clients onsite; escort visitors as needed.
  • Understand local and state laws related to physical security and unauthorized individuals.
  • Maintain situational and community awareness for potential threats or risks to Outside In employees, participants, visitors, and property.
  • Update, maintain and distribute resources to participants and community members as needed.
  • Update and maintain commonly used inventory, including documenting items distributed as appropriate for programs.
  • Receive and route mail as needed
  • Conduct building rounds and perform other routine safety and security services.
  • Provide security incident response and/or investigation as needed, including escalating to law enforcement if necessary.
  • Create clear, concise incident reporting documentation.
  • Provide scene assessment of emergencies and perform basic first aid as needed.
  • Support Building Evacuation Team as needed during drills and emergencies.
  • Provide proactive input, by identifying and reporting building issues.

This department will fill (2) 1.0 FTE roles, and a 0.5 FTE role. Each full-time position becomes the main point of contact with one of the following, but will have working knowledge in both of the following (the part time position is expected to have a grounding and be able to support):

    • Support the Safety Committee by being a lead/liaison between the committee and S&D; OR
    • Support business enterprises by being a main point of contact for key external safety stakeholders (Fire Marshal, Performance/Maintenance systems, other contractors)

Requirements for the Position (experience, education, etc.)

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or approved medical or religious exception on file is required.
  • Within 12 months of hire, become DPSST certified
  • Willingness to submit to a Background check

Desired but Not Required

  • Familiarity with the Incident Command System
  • Past experience with de-escalation Preferred
  • Past experience working in a non-profit serving diverse and vulnerable populations

Working Conditions

This job is performed at the reception area in a medical clinic environment/drop-in space, with moderate noise generally. Exposure to the elements when making rounds, walking to nearby locations, etc. is expected. May be required to act as a first-response to high-stress situations.

Physical Requirements [adjust as needed]

This job requires operating phones, computers and other office equipment. Communicating is required on a regular basis. Regularly moving inside the building to other offices and program delivery spaces as well as moving to surrounding sites is expected. Regularly moves boxes and/or items weighing up to 30 pounds.
