HERITAGE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
SAFETY AND SECURITY MANAGER
DEPARTMENT: Safety and Security
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
DIRECT REPORTS: Patrol Officers, Traffic Workers, and Fine Arts Front Desk Employees
POSITION OBJECTIVE: To manage and provide oversight to the school Safety and Security department; responsible for the Safety and Security of campus; 24/7.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle. The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. Employee shall possess an approachable and relational personality along with excellent organizational, multi-tasking and creative characteristics. Presenting a calm demeanor while maintaining the ability to direct a course of action, manage emergency situations and making in-the-moment decisions is required. In addition, the employee shall have the ability to demonstrate mature decision making, exercise sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality. The ability to work well with limited supervision while maintaining a high level of productivity is essential.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma (college degree in a related field, a plus) and proficiency in Google/Office products and use of apps within the role are required. Previous law enforcement training and certification is highly desired. An understanding of school-related security matters and procedures is considered highly beneficial. Position requires firearms safety, shooting proficiency, de-escalation training and mental health evaluation as detailed in our armed security policy. .

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Physically on campus during school hours, ready to protect the faculty, staff, and students and de-escalate situations as needed
On call to address campus safety situations that may arise during nights and weekends.
Serve as a key member of any crisis response team, responsible for coordination with IMPD and other agencies.
Hire, train, and manage HCS Patrol Officers and Contractors to perform their duties including:
Alignment with armed security requirements
Manning of the front gate during school hours, greeting visitors, monitoring for suspicious behaviour, and enforcing policies
Staffing of daily schedules and responsibilities throughout campus, including events
Being a visible presence on campus, inside and out, ready to act in an emergency situation
Direct, organize and participate in all aspects of arrival and dismissal traffic including:
Efficient flow of traffic
Respectfully addressing safety concerns
Hire, train, and manage Fine Arts front desk employees to:
Greet and screen visitors
Coordinate the creation and distribution of ID badges and parent ID cards.
Administer employee and student parking spots and creation and distribution of parking passes.
Lead department (officers, traffic, and front desk) in representing HCS well through personal example and instruction in a customer focused model, without sacrificing safety or security.
Oversee functionality of the electronic door and gate systems for all HCS activities; monitor and manage the distribution of all physical key and key card access systems.
Schedule and execute fire, tornado and lockdown drills in coordination with the School Administrators.
Manage and oversee the school camera system to include active monitoring, proper incident review and maintenance of the cameras and systems.
Make recommendations to the COO and CEO regarding delaying the start or canceling school and campus events.
Execute HCS new employee orientation with respect to Safety and Security issues, including, but not limited to, emergency procedures and protocol.
Train all employees, establish policies, and procure necessary equipment and supplies to support a Run, Hide, Fight model as appropriate by school.
Work with COO to set and then manage the Safety and Security departmental budget, approving all time cards and expenditures.
Apply for and manage security related grants
Work with School Administrators to train employees on CPS reporting requirements and support reporting as requested.
Track, enforce, communicate and monitor custody issues consistent with our Custody Policy.
Make COO aware of significant campus incidents in a timely manner
Establish and test systems and plans to alert both the school community and emergency responders in a variety of situations
Work with the School Administrators to plan for a reunification site off campus in case of an emergency or disaster on campus.
Manage and secure school owned firearms and associated checkin/out procedures
Expected to schedule and lead the Safe School Committee, seeing that agreed to action items are completed in a timely manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to operate all office equipment and move 50 pounds. A portion of the day will be spent stationary at a desk. Other periods will require being quite active at varying responsiveness levels, traversing the entire campus at a brisk pace to cover security shift duties. This position requires the willingness and ability to be outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, snow, sleet and heat.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment with moderate to loud noise level. Uses computer, phone and audio/radio equipment. Works alone and with others. Exposure to the weather daily while crossing the HCS campus and participating in traffic control.
EXEMPT STATUS: Salary exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full time, 12-month position with regular hours of Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This position does not follow the academic calendar. The schedule during school breaks is negotiable, but some work is to be expected. Summer is full time. Occasional after hours, on call support of situations that arise.
BENEFIT CATEGORY: Salaried, 12 month full time.
