You will be crafting and designing state-of-the-art RF-subsystems for wireless communication system; such as cellular, Wi-Fi, PLC and next generation broadcasting, for emerging applications that requires very high data rate, high efficiency and low latency on our SDR platforms to meet demanding computationally intensive, real-time, high performance, low power and low-cost requirements. The key responsibilities include:
- Translate system level functional and performance requirements into requirements for the RF sub-system including the breakdown to block level and component level.
- Analyze the signal chain by means of simulations (e.g., MATLAB, HFSS, ADS) and link budget analysis.
- Design, simulate, implement and validate RF system subsystem/modules and investigate innovative RF architecture for wireless communication systems and their performance enhancements.
- Solve complex and interdisciplinary problems that are related to the RF sub-system.
- Work with vendors, technology suppliers and multi-functional teams to optimize RF system performance.
- RF sub-system, module, component characterization using RF test & measurement instruments
- System debugging, analytical and problem-solving.
- Work with architects, wireless systems engineers, SW engineers, product teams and HW digital designers to define and specify the RF sub-systems / modules.
- Work with wireless systems engineers and DSP engineers to develop DSP algorithms to correct / improve impairments in RF/analog circuitry, such as calibrations, pre-equalizations, quadrature modulation correction and/or pre-distortion techniques.
- Provide support for regulatory certifications (FCC/IC/ETSI etc.).
- Work with chip designers so that our SDR platforms can be improved continuously to support wireless applications.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience with radio hardware design and/or RF component design, including simulation, schematics capture and PCB layout.
- Thorough understanding of direct conversion architecture and its impairments correction mechanisms
- Familiarity with various power amplifier architectures and their associated characteristics; such as power efficiency and linearity
- Good knowledge of non-linear effects of RF devices and their impacts on wireless system design
- Working knowledge of OFDM/OFDMA waveforms and MIMO technology; and their impacts on RF
- Good knowledge of TX and RX performance metrics like ACLR, EVM, spectrum masks, phase noise, receiver sensitivity and RX blocking is a must.
- Fluent in wireless communications standards, wireless technology and communications market trends
- Hands on experience with RF circuits and hardware; as well as their characterization and tuning on the lab bench
- Expert level knowledge in using test instruments; such as Vector Signal Generator (VSA), Vector Signal Analyzer (VSA), RF network analyzer, high speed sampling oscilloscope
- Experience in analyzing TX / RX chains from RF-baseband interface to antenna and in translating top level requirements into specification items for transceiver building blocks and RF frontend components (e.g., PA, filter, LNA, switches).
