The DSB Career and Training Center (CTC) in Raleigh, NC offers residentially based services are provided to individuals who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind to assist them with achieving their goals of independence, education and employment. Many individuals served also have secondary disabilities. Services are available to adults and teens. The CTC is the sole residential training program for this population in NC. Residential services make it possible to offer comprehensive, unique services to all NC residents.
The CTC offers residential services 24 hours a day, five to seven days a week, 12 months a year. This position is based in the CTC residential dorms and works 3:30pm-Midnight, Sunday through Thursday. The CTC dorms are available to participants whenever regular, in-person programming is offered. Programming is paused for State holidays, on breaks between CTC programs and, when feasible, during emergency weather conditions. Residential staff need to observe some holidays on dates other than the official date of the holiday.
The Residential Life Supervisor reports directly to the Center Director and provides direct supervision to three Residential Life Trainers, Residential Life Trainer temp staff and the Computer Lab Coordinator. As a part of CTC management, this position promotes an environment where all people are treated fairly and consistently and with dignity and respect. Residential life offers participants an opportunity to increase their independent living skills and practice skills learned in classes in a residential setting as well as in community settings.
Job responsibilities include:
- In coordination with the Center Director, ensure adequate coverage for all times residential services are offered
- Hire and maintain a small pool of temp staff for coverage for staff absences. At times when adequate staffing cannot be secured, this position provides third shift coverage
- Interview and make recommendations for hiring permanent staff
- Onboard new staff and provide supervision and coaching to existing staff
- Provide timely reviews of staff work plans according to policy
- Encourage participants to reach their maximum potential by offering assistance when needed and allowing individuals to complete tasks independently when assistance is not required
- Facilitate opportunities for participants to put class lessons into practice in real life settings
- Oversee residential safety and maintenance by coordinating regular fire and other safety drills, orienting staff and students to safety protocols, identifying and responding to building maintenance concerns and being available to participants who may present with a variety of concerns
- Report on participant progress as well as participant concerns to Center management, Center Counselors or others as applicable. Complete detailed written reports on incidents
- Assess residential supplies and equipment needs
- Account for student attendance and absences from residential settings
- Ensure transportation is available for community activities and in the case of an emergency

or
High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and five years of the above experience, two of which must have been supervisory.
