The South Carolina Commission for the Blind helps blind or visually impaired residents of South Carolina gain independence and identify their strengths, abilities, skills, and resources to obtain employment. The commission provides adjustment-to-blindness training and job-placement services for thousands of South Carolinians each year.
The Dormitory Assistant will assist with the oversight, coordination, scheduling, and monitoring of consumer activities at the SC Commission for the Blind EBMRC residential facility, including enforcement of the Code of Conduct and Attendance Policies. Oversees sanitation and maintenance procedures to assure cleanliness and orderliness of the facility and the general health and safety of the residents. Documents and reports inappropriate behaviors, and medical and residential emergencies. Assists consumers in caring for their dorm and personal areas, as well as promoting independent living skills. Provides transportation on an as-needed basis.
We are currently hiring one Dormitory Assistant for the 2nd shift.
2nd Shift - Monday - Thursday 3:00 pm -11:30 pm
A High School Diploma, or equivalent GED, and relevant human services or social services experience. Must be able to operate a State vehicle.
Ability to work with individuals with special needs and/or disabilities and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse staff.
Occasionally moves equipment and supplies weighting up to 32 pounds. Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
