Job Description
About Oxford Biotherapeutics:
Oxford Biotherapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company for the development of antibody therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. You will play an integral role in the pre-clinical development of novel immuno-oncology therapeutics. Our OGAP® platform is the world's largest, cancer specific, membrane protein library, directly measuring plasma membrane protein expression in patient tumors. OGAP is used to identify novel, highly tumor specific antigens for novel first-in-class ADC, Bispecific T-cell Engager (BITE®) and Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) targets. Our lead asset, OBT076, is an Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) in Phase 1b clinical development. Our clinical and pre-clinical pipeline of novel biologics is balanced between internal programs, focused on ADCs and checkpoint regulators, and externally partnered programs with key innovators in oncology such as Boehringer Ingelheim, Immunogen and Genmab.
Purpose of the Role
The candidate’s role is to perform tasks and support projects assigned by both external and internal programs as part of a small, high performing team focussed on Protein Biochemistry/Sciences within the agreed timelines and quality standards. The candidate should be knowledgeable and proficient in grasping concepts of protein biochemistry and protein sciences.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Protein expressions, purifications, and characterizations; cell line developments; and antibody and protein biochemistry assay optimizations and developments.
- Serve as a key contributor to the discovery and development of antibody therapeutics for oncology and immune oncology for novel targets.
- Support the design and implement antibody discovery plans (immunogen design, assay development, screening, and functional characterization methods) to meet timelines.
- Support biologic discovery through different platforms of antibody development and protein production
- Generate various target over-expressing cell lines for antibody discovery projects
- Develop strategies to express, purify, and analyze proteins for novel tumor targets expressed in mammalian cells and develop new methods and evaluate emerging technologies
- Experience in protein purification using a variety of chromatographic techniques with hands-on experience using and maintaining AKTA FPLC systems with Unicorn software.
- Characterization of antibody and protein expression and purification including binding affinity and binding kinetics, FACS, ELISA, SEC, protein gel analysis, and other functional assays.
- Analyze data, interpret results, identify problems, and develop trouble shooting plans
- Participate in the transfer of processes, technology, and assays to/from internal and external collaborators and outside vendors
- Prepare reports and presentations for group meetings
- Actively participate in group/project meetings
Please note the roles and responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to the above.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
- BS in biological sciences or related fields with 2-4 years, or MS with 5 years’ experience in biopharma industry, preferably in a fast-paced start-up environment.
- Experience in cell line development for recombinant protein and antibody expressions including transfection, sub-clone screening, and clone characterization, is preferable.
- Familiar with molecular biology or/and biochemistry, including gene manipulation, sub-cloning, expression vector modifications.
- Knowledge of antibody drug discovery experience for immune oncology in biopharmaceutical industry.
- Knowledge of the biologics drug discovery process and representation of the protein science function at project team meetings.
- Proficient with high-throughput multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, protein gel analysis, and SEC.
- Good documentation practices and good laboratory practices.
- Ability to be a team player and collaborate with colleagues is critical.
