Job Title: Recreational and Vocational Counselor - Bilingual

Location: Queens, NY (Richmond Hill)

Sector: Social Work / Behavioral Intervention

Salary: $25 - $35 an hour (DOE)

Type: Full-time and Part-time

Job breakdown

Outreach has multiple openings at its Richmond Hill, Queens location for Vocational and Recreational Counselors to adolescents and adults recovering from mental health and / or substance abuse issues.

What you will own

  • Providing highly structured indoor and outdoor recreational activities to residents
  • Providing highly structured creative activities to residents
  • Conducting assessments and maintaining daily group notes
  • Collaborating with other team members in the level of care determinations
  • Participating in staff meetings, case conferences, and other unit meetings
  • Planning, participating, and supervising special events with residents and family of residents
  • Communicating all pertinent information to the relevant team or management member

Skills you will bring to the table

  • Experience providing structured-creative outlets for residents in recovery
  • Team mindset and empathetic energy
  • Ability to stay calm in a crisis
  • Strong interpersonal communication (written and spoken)
  • Culturally sensitive and empathetic
  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Flexibility in shift coverage or swap
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation programs

Negotiables

  • Master's degree in social work or relevant field
  • CRC, LMSW, LCSW, LMHC or higher, preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience working in an OASAS-funded facility a plus
  • Experience using AVATAR

Non-negotiables

  • Bilingual in Spanish as you will primarily be working with non-English speakers
  • Qualified Healthcare Professional (QHP) license
  • CASAC-T; will consider CASAC-T eligible or transferable skills in residential care
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, or a relevant field
  • 1-3 years experience providing substance abuse treatment services
  • 1-3 years experience providing services to individuals with co-occurring disorders
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources related to substance abuse disorders, mental health disorders, and misc. chronic medical conditions
