General Description
The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to assume responsibility for providing professional recreation and aquatic programming for the City of Green Bay. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, possess strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).

Examples of Duties
- Creatively and collaboratively works with Recreation Manager to develop/implement aquatic programming, pool operations and guest service operations (including concession stands) for the Recreation Division at Colburn Pool, Resch Aquatic Center, and Joannes Aquatic Center and will be the first point of contact for daily pool operations.
- Collaboratively organizes, promotes and supervises the daily winter tubing/ski hill operations and special events throughout the year at Triangle Sports Area (TSA).
- Responsible for the recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating of part-time, seasonal staff for recreation, TSA and aquatics programs.
- Develops and conducts seasonal staff trainings, in-services, and meetings.
- Evaluates trends and conducts follow up communication to address concern and to improve/expand program participation.
- Establish and maintain aquatic operation database tracking attendance and incidents.
- Responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and implementing recreation activities and classes based on expressed user expectations.
- Evaluates risk management concerns related to all programming to ensure safe, clean and attractive facilities for participants. Responds to accidents and/or emergencies in a calm and controlled manner.
- Maintains inventory and places orders for equipment and concessions for the Recreation division, TSA and pools.
- Helps prepare, administer, and maintain budget specific to assigned program areas. All financial reports to be current, accurate and consistently reliable, maximizing service cost recovery.
- Assists with the facilitation of promotion/marketing of designated programs/special events to increase public awareness and participation.
- Establishes and maintains a customer focused approach for recreation, TSA and aquatic programming.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude, creativity, flexibility, and willingness to contribute across a variety of areas related to recreation programming.
- Follows all policies and procedures, and the philosophy that is set forth by the City of Green Bay Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years of supervisory experience, recreation and/or aquatic experience, and/or related education desired.
- Four-year degree in Recreation, Aquatics, Education, Health & Wellness, or related field.
- Experience working with the public.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record.
- Certifications preferred or ability obtain includes: CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Instructor, Certified Pool Operation (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operation (AFO), and Wisconsin Food Manager Certification
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Skill in developing and leading staff trainings.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and evolving environment to effectively meet program and team needs.
- Ability to proficiently operate a computer and required software, including Microsoft office products, social media platforms, online meeting schedulers and recreation software.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to read and perform basic calculations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to maintain a positive public image and positive attitude.
- Ability to work required hours of the position. Some evenings and weekends throughout the year will be required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, crouching, and kneeling.
- Occasional sitting, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
