The Department of Planning & Building is actively recruiting for a Secretary II to join their Records Management Team!

Who We Are
The Department of Planning and Building oversees exciting and dynamic projects involving land use in the unincorporated areas of the County of San Luis Obispo. We are a department of staff committed to the protection of life, safety and the welfare of the environment and our community.

The Team
The Records Management team is comprised of dedicated, hands-on individuals who are passionate about public service. This team works with different sections of the Department of Planning and Building to uphold and foster a culture of innovation, collaborative partnerships, supportive teamwork, and exceptional customer service.

The Role
The Secretary plays a multi-faceted role in the Department of Planning and Building and serves as an expert resource regarding public hearing bodies, records and documents and compliance on a wide range of legal requirements. The successful candidate will embody the County values of integrity, collaboration, professionalism, accountability, and responsiveness. Typical tasks and duties include:

  • Assist with project application data entry accurately
  • Gather data and process performance reports
  • Assist with the pre-application meeting coordination
  • Assist with planning application referrals
  • Assist with coordinating staff and customer training
  • Assists hearing body members with meeting legal requirements
  • Composes correspondence; completes special projects, as assigned
  • Oversees day-to-day office support services to ensure effective and efficient operation of the Records Management section while supporting to staff

Minimum Qualifications:
Secretary II: Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate. Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency in Secretarial or Clerical studies or its equivalent from an accredited institution may be substituted for one year of the required general clerical experience.

In addition, Either A: Five years of progressively responsible general clerical experience OR B: Three years of experience in a journey-level secretarial position.
Secretary II: Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate. Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency in Secretarial or Clerical studies or its equivalent from an accredited institution may be substituted for one year of the required general clerical experience.
