Role:
The Rail Track Maintainer is responsible for inspecting, repairing and replacing rails, ties, switches and ballasts. The role performs outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions and ensures a safe working environment.
Major Responsibilities:
Maintain CN's train rails, ties, switches and ballasts through inspection, repair, and replacement
Maintain various hand tools for assigned work
Remove and replace defective ties, rails spikes, and anchors
Repair deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge
Install and repair street and railroad crossings and assist in the replacement or repair of items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
Unload ballasts and distribute track material
Sort used track material for loading
Ensure railroad right-of-way is clear of brush, vegetation, snow and litter
Ensure a safe working environment, by following CN's safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions:
Shift work, with occasional overtime when necessary
Long periods of travel required, including overnight
Primarily performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions
Repetitive physical activity
Physical: lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally
Requirements:
Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory and safety environment
Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Valid driver's license
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must meet all medical fitness for duty requirements for the position, including requirements for Safety
Ability to work autonomously, adapt to different situations and manage stress
Demonstrate good teamwork and maintain positive interactions with others
Dedicated to getting the job done while meeting established standards of quality, safety, productivity and client satisfaction
Displays common sense and good judgment
Hand-eye coordination
Grasping skills

Training
The incumbent receives classroom training over a period of 4 weeks at 40 hours per week. The training is primarily on health and safety rules and basic machine operator procedures. Successful completion of the classroom training is mandatory in order to work as a Rail Track Maintainer.
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement

L'agent ou l'agente d'entretien de la voie est responsable de l'inspection, de la reparation et du remplacement des rails, des traverses, des aiguillages et du ballast. Cette personne travaille a l'exterieur dans diverses conditions meteorologiques et environnementales et assure un milieu de travail securitaire.
Principales responsabilites:
Assurer l'entretien des rails, des traverses, des aiguillages et du ballast du CN au moyen d'inspections, de reparations et de remplacements
Entretenir differents outils a main pour le travail attribue
Participer au retrait et a la pose des traverses, crampons et anticheminants defectueux
Corriger les defauts de nivellement, de dressage et d'ecartement de la voie
Poser et reparer des traversees et des passages a niveau, et participer aux travaux de remplacement ou de reparation d'elements comme les aiguillages a manuvre electrique et les joints isolants
Decharger le ballast et distribuer le materiel de voie
Trier le materiel de voie usage en vue de son chargement
S'assurer que l'emprise ferroviaire est exempte de broussailles, de vegetation, de neige et de dechets
Assurer un environnement de travail securitaire, en suivant les lignes directrices et les methodes du CN touchant la securite
Conditions de travail:
Travail par quarts; heures supplementaires occasionnelles au besoin
Longues periodes de deplacement, y compris de nuit
Le travail se fait principalement a l'exterieur dans diverses conditions meteorologiques et environnementales
Taches physiques repetitives
Levage et transport frequents de poids allant jusqu'a 50 lb et parfois jusqu'a 70 lb
Exigences:
Experience de travail pertinente dans des conditions semblables ou dans un milieu assujetti a des regles d'exploitation et de securite
Experience de la conduite de machines et de materiel lourd
Diplome d'etudes secondaires ou l'equivalent
Permis de conduire en regle
Avoir au moins 18 ans
Obligation de repondre a toutes les exigences d'evaluation de l'aptitude au travail pour le poste ainsi qu'a toutes les exigences en matiere de securite
Capacite a travailler de facon autonome, a s'adapter a des conditions changeantes et a bien gerer le stress

Formation
Le ou la titulaire recoit une formation en classe de 3 semaines a raison de 40 heures par semaine. La formation aborde principalement les regles de sante et securite, de meme que les techniques de base des conducteurs ou des conductrices de machine. La reussite de cette formation en classe est obligatoire pour travailler a titre d'agent ou d'agente d'entretien de la voie.
Ce poste est syndique. Par consequent, le salaire et les avantages sociaux sont regis par la convention collective en vigueur.
