The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is the largest department within the City and County of San Francisco (CCSF). SFDPH is an integrated health department with two major divisions that fulfill its mission of protecting and promoting the health of all San Franciscans:
  • The San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) includes top-rated hospitals, clinics and programs that provide medical, mental health, and substance abuse services to over 100,000 individuals. The SFHN includes Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the only local Level 1 trauma center for San Francisco, and Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center (LHH), one of the largest public skilled nursing facility in the country; and
  • The Population Health Division (PHD), which earned public health accreditation in 2017, carries out traditional and mandatory public health functions such as: consumer safety activities; health promotion and prevention; inspection of food, alcohol, and cannabis businesses; promote improved air and water quality; promote pedestrian safety; HIV prevention, research, and surveillance; tuberculosis (TB) prevention and treatment; Emergency Medical Services; and analysis of community public health data.

Job Description

Under direction, the Radiologic Technologist Lead, functions as a lead Radiologic Technologist of a shift or an assigned area of diagnostic imaging. Examples of Important and Essential Duties:
  • Functions as lead worker in an assigned area or for a shift; manages workload relative to available resources; prioritizes work and assigns tasks to Diagnostic Imaging Technologists and support staff; prepares and monitors work schedules and perform time reporting duties; inventories supplies and stocks area.
  • Acts as preceptor to new staff, or to an employee learning new skills or equipment; trains, orients and documents initial and annual competencies of staff; assists others with technical or positioning advice.
  • Performs general diagnostic procedures using fixed or portable, general, digital, fluoroscopic or other diagnostic equipment performs diagnostic imaging procedures in advanced modalities; lifts and carries cassettes to and from imaging equipment; manipulates and manages images; positions patients and selects technical factors based on knowledge of radiologic science, specific equipment and patient assessment.
  • Applies principles of radiation safety in compliance with federal, state and departmental standards; uses appropriate filters, cones, protective clothing and devices to obtain high-quality images with radiation exposure levels as low as reasonably achievable to patients, others and self; wears and exchanges radiation monitoring devices.
  • Assesses general patient condition, including stability, pain and safety, and as necessary takes action consistent with standards; monitors medical equipment and promptly adjusts or reports problems; observes and documents patient physical and procedural restraints.
  • Documents procedures and events in the patient's medical record and departmental logs, in accordance with regulatory, hospital and departmental standards; identifies images and documents with patient, technologist, date/time and laterality information.
  • Transports patients using gurneys, wheelchairs and beds; transfers patients to and from the exam table.
  • Schedules procedures and patients; transfers paper orders into an electronic order entry system; produces, processes and collates images and paperwork, and submits them for interpretation; receives and assists patients and other customers; answers departmental telephones; may be assigned to coordinate patient flow.
  • Performs venipuncture and CPR; assists physicians preparing and/or administering contrast media, setting up sterile and non-sterile trays, and providing instruments, medical devices and supplies as requested.
  • Trains student technologists in the science and practice of diagnostic imaging; assists in teaching and grading students.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Improvement efforts including conducting various quality control and assurance procedures and participating in quality improvement programs.
  • Cleans imaging equipment, supplies and procedure rooms; acts as liaison with field service engineer to effect necessary repairs.
  • Maintains patient medical records and data integrity using Radiology and hospital IT systems.
  • Assists physicians and providers in resolving imaging questions or issues.

Positions in Class 2472 Radiologic Technologist Lead may perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

Experience:
Four (4) years of experience working as a Radiologic Technologist; AND

License & Certification:
  1. Possession of a current license issued by the State of California as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT); AND
  2. Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); AND
  3. ARRT certification in at least one advanced modality (e.g. Mammography (MM), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Quality Management (QM), Bone Density (BD), Cardiac-Interventional (CI) or Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI)); AND
  4. Possession of a valid permit in Fluoroscopy equipment issued by California Department of Health Services, Radiologic Health Branch; AND
  5. Certification in Possession of a valid Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

SELECTION PROCEDURES
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight: Qualifying): Applicants will be required to complete a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire that will be emailed. Applicants will be required to respond to the MQSQ in the time frame indicated, and submit their answers as directed.

Training and Experience Evaluation/Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) (Weight: 100%): The SQ will be sent to those qualified candidates who demonstrate to meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates will be required to submit the completed SQ in the time frame indicated and responses on the SQ cannot be changed once submitted. A passing score must be achieved on the SQ in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidates will be placed in rank order according to their final score on the SQ. After the confidential eligible list/score report is adopted, the department may administer additional selection procedures to make a final hiring decision. The SQ is designed to measure knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in job-related areas that have been identified as critical for satisfactory performance in this position. All relevant experience, education and/or training must be included in the application to be reviewed during the scoring process. The department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.

Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created, and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. Candidate scores on this examination may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles, when directed by the Human Resources Director.
