RADIOLOGY TECHNICIAN
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Operates fluoroscopy equipment (GE OEC 9900) and performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by the physician and under the guidance of the physician. Assists in preparing the operating/procedure rooms, as needed. Documents duration of radiation, tests equipment weekly, examines protective x-ray aprons for integrity, and documents the results of tests/examinations.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Current fluoroscopy and CRT license in Oregon. Successful completion of BLS (Basic Life Support).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology with one (1) or more years of related work experience preferred. Registered or registry-eligible with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
ELIGIBILITY: Must be able to provide proof of their Identity and their right to work in the United States
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
- Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic/fluoroscopic examinations.
- Demonstrates competence in selecting exposure factors and positioning, and consistently produces high-quality images.
- Demonstrates competence and proficiency in the use of imaging equipment.
- Troubleshoots equipment problems.
- Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
- Demonstrates awareness of protocol for dealing with malfunctioning equipment; tracks progress of repairs and service.
- Practices radiation safety for self and patient – wears radiological monitoring devices and adheres to principles of radiation protection.
- Assures all persons within the operating room/treatment room are protected from radiation scatter.
- Assists physician with imaging during procedures.
- Practices aseptic technique, isolation and infection control procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of facility’s policies and procedures.
- Completes assigned procedures in a timely manner and assists in preparing the operating/procedure room for the next procedure.
- Demonstrates age-specific competencies when providing radiologic care.
- Remains current with all required in-services.
- Ensures compliance with all Oregon radiological standards and regulations.
- Performs other duties as may be appropriately required or assigned.
- Willing to cross train as needed.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION: Minimal. Must be self-directed, able to work independently.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND JUDGEMENT: Gathers, analyzes and evaluates facts, utilizing policies and procedures and past experience in making recommendations.
PROFESSIONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrates knowledge of radiology standards, facility policies & procedures, and the organizational structure of the center.
MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES: Utilizes equipment and supplies wisely and cost-efficiently.
COMPETENCY / SKILLS REVIEW: Satisfactorily completes all mandatory competency reviews.

ATTENDANCE: Excellent attendance required. Willingness to work extra hours as needed.
MACHINES / EQUIPMENT USED: Imaging equipment, clinical equipment used for patient care, including, but not limited to, patient monitors, stretchers, defibrillator, and suction equipment. Office equipment, including computers, copiers, telephones, intercoms and fax machines.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Works in well-lighted and ventilated climate controlled environment with complicated equipment, some equipment with moving mechanical parts.
2. May be exposed to patients who have communicable diseases. With proper techniques, this risk should be minimized.
3. May have occasional exposure to blood borne and airborne disease pathogens. With proper techniques, this risk should be minimized.
4. Risk of radiation exposure with radiology.
5. May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
6. Quiet to moderate noise levels. Must be able to hear alarms on equipment, patient call – alarms, patient – calls, overhead pages and instructions from physicians or staff.
7. May be exposed to anesthetic gases/agents, fumes or airborne particles.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Requires extensive mobility: walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
2. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
3. Pushing, pulling, and lifting of equipment and/or patients
4. Requires mental alertness and accuracy for decision making.
5. Requires ability to speak, hear, and to identify and distinguish colors
6. Use of hands to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape.
7. Repetitive motion required for extensive use of computers.
8. Good visual acuity.
9. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
