Job Description:

This is an exciting time for CCS as crisis services have received increasing attention locally and nationally as a key to diverting people experiencing a behavioral health crisis from law enforcement involvement. CCS received nearly $2 million in state infrastructure grant funds as well as a significant increase in staffing under the Mayor's FY22-24 budget, and new models such as integrating CCS clinicians into San Francisco's 911 call center have been announced. CCS is in need of a Medical Director who can provide leadership and clinical supervision to support daily operations and program improvements through this time of growth. Additionally, the CCS Medical Director supervises the medical team at Hope SF, the Wellness Centers in SF public housing developments. This is a full time, 2242, Senior Psychiatric Physician Specialist position (Psychiatrist).

• Participates in the leadership team for CCS and Hope SF, including improving policies and procedures, program quality improvement activities, compliance and documentation.

• Supervises medical team including psychiatrists and nurses (RNs, LPTs) at CCS and Hope SF, including conducting annual performance plans and assessments, and facilitating medical peer review.

• Facilitates psychiatry referrals from CCS case manager and Hope SF clinicians including triaging, assigning, and supporting care for adult and child clients. • Provides direct patient care for medication management cases and mobile crisis field visits as needed.

• Manages the medication room in compliance with pharmacy regulations.

• Oversees COVID safety for the program including management of policies and procedures as well as PPE ordering and distribution.

• Provides clinical consultation on medically and psychiatrically complex cases with CCS and Hope SF clinicians as well as other clinicians in the system.

• Collaborates with partner programs within BHS/DPH and with other agencies.

• Participates in system medical director planning and policy meetings.

• Serves as a system resource on crisis evidence-based and equity-driven practices and standards of care, including serving as a member of crisis system-related risk and sentinel event reviews.

• Ensures that crisis services are trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, person-centered, culturally competent, inclusive and welcoming of diversity.

• Works with crisis leadership to facilitate a collaborative environment, alignment and psychological safety among program team members, stakeholders and the community at-large.

• Addresses issues of workplace equity and inclusion and participates in and supports initiatives to recruit, hire, and develop health care providers from underrepresented groups.

• Has a commitment to providing high quality care and services to all people in San Francisco, with heightened sensitivity and awareness to racial, ethnic, and culturally diverse members of the DPH’s workforce and patient populations.

• Has the desire and commitment to lead and participate in antiracism, racial justice, and equity work that impacts quality of patient care, and improvements in employee experiences; along with the commitment and fortitude to push and drive change in these areas.

• Has a commitment to health equity with a specific lens and focus on race, ethnicity, gender, sex, and sexuality.

• Demonstrates a commitment to promoting equity in the workplace and to implementing equity initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities.

• Performs other duties as assigned, including activities of interest to be determined in collaboration with supervisor.
