Job description

As a key member of the Data Foundations organization, you'll be a founding member of a suite of data products that will transform how our customers manage, modernize, and access their data! Your skills will provide the actionable customer insights that will drive our roadmap for years to come. Leadership will look to you to establish the process and mechanisms needed to create a healthy, customer-focused organization that integrates voice of customer data into everything it does. Bring your research experience, knowledge of qualitative/quantitative methodologies, and data-driven mindset to the team and help us transform the way our customers do their work.

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, you will be responsible for providing customer research support for the creation of innovative customer journeys that provide seamless, easy to use, end-to-end workflows that span across multiple data-related functions like data pipeline management, publishing, and consumption.

You will develop a keen understanding of the product's target audience, their needs, and their pain points. By understanding how our customers do what they do, you will gain an in-depth knowledge of relevant product features and identify gaps and friction points. You will collaborate with our product and technology teams to develop innovative concepts, drive feature requirements, and help develop roadmaps based on customer data. You will work with customers and Product Managers to identify pain points, develop detailed personas, capture customer journeys, and define problem statements. You will then work with product designers to test proposed solutions, guide design choices, and provide voice of customer data that will help drive continuous improvements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the Product and Technical teams, content producers, designers, and developers to produce product research artifacts.
  • Partner with Product to aggregate, analyze, and act on customer data in order to improve customer experiences and shape product roadmaps. This work includes helping to develop business requirements, use cases, and product requirements.
  • Help define, contribute, and maintain user-centric research processes that include market analysis, customer feedback, customer interviews, usability testing, and behavioral analytics.
  • Represent customer needs in every aspect of the software development lifecycle.
  • Identify customer usage hypothesis and vet them with objective qual/quant testing methodologies, including use of surveys, interviews, and ethnographic & evaluative studies.
  • Vet design proposals against customer needs and user data with customer interviews, evaluative studies (i.e., usability testing), A/B testing, metrics analysis, and other methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience as a user researcher, usability tester, or similar role
  • 5+ years of experience testing and analyzing web-based applications
  • Masters degree in usability research, human-computer interaction (HCI), or 7+ years equivalent professional experience
  • A portfolio that demonstrates user-centered expertise through white paper and user analysis documentation
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD in usability research, human-computer interaction (HCI), or related field
  • Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with Product Managers to identify user needs
  • Demonstrated functional and technical expertise with behavioral analytics and reporting tools like Heap, Pendo, or Adobe Analytics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in best practices for web-based application information architecture design, design patterns, usability principles, and techniques
