Position Information Description The University Children's Learning Center (UCLC) is seeking experienced and talented applicants to serve as an ECE Supervisor in a preschool classroom. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing care and developmentally appropriate education with a co-teacher for a classroom of up to 10 children 18 months to 3 years of age, or 20 children 3 years to 5 years of age including all children regardless of ability; observing and evaluating children based on ND Early Learning Guidelines; work effectively with families; and train, mentor and supervisor students caregivers, foster grandparents and volunteers. Duties & Responsibilities Build a close, caring, respectful relationship with each child and each child's family. Prepare a rich, stimulating, learning environment for children. Provide for the health and ensure the safety of young children, by knowing the whereabouts of children at all times.

Develop a daily routine that meets the individual child's need for rest, nutrition, quiet and active play, both indoors and outdoors through each day. Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate activities throughout each day that promote the physical, social, emotional, language and intellectual development of young children. Confer regularly with all parents, caregivers or guardians to assess each child's needs and evaluate his/her progress.

Confer regularly with other medical or educational professionals that may be working with individual children, on an as-needed basis. Make necessary adaptations and accommodations in the environment and daily routine to best meet the needs of children with special needs. Assess health needs of children, daily, using UCLC guidelines.

Following all of the Department of Human Services minimum requirements and striving to meet all of the National Association for the Education of Young Children's best practices. Complete and record weekly observations of each children, recording their progress in Teaching Strategies Gold. Evaluate children's progress regularly with co-teachers and caregivers in the classroom, consult with Director or Assistant Director as needed.

Submit weekly written plans based on observations of individual children and the classroom as a whole. Communicate with parents, caregiver's and/or guardians daily. Offer an opportunity for a Family-Teacher conference a minimum of once each semester.

Provide parents, caregiver's and/or guardians a written progress report each semester. Participate in UCLC special events and activities as scheduled. Provide parents with ideas regarding child's development, knowledge and insights; discuss child's strengths and vulnerabilities, offering supportive services and referrals as needed.

Maintain confidentiality of all families and children, except in cases where mandated by law to violate. Promote a positive and friendly atmosphere to all children and their families, caregivers or guardians. (i.e.

extend warm welcomes, introducing yourself, using eye contact, addressing people by their names without showing favoritism/dislike to child, co-worker, parent, caregiver or guardian); seek to understand and accept all families and their individual life styles, parenting choices and situations Ability to train and/or motivate others, complete formal/written and informal evaluations; provide constructive feedback criticism. Train, mentor and supervise students, volunteers and caregivers working in the classroom with children, assisting them in setting goals for themselves. Supervise Foster grandparents.

Must be knowledgeable of and carry out University Children's Learning Center policies and goals Provide classroom orientation and supervision of students from a variety of disciplines at UND. Maintain familiarity and meet minimum requirements as indicated by the ND Dept of Human Services Chapter 75-03-10 (Child Care Center) and 75-03-11 (Preschool) Early Childhood Services licensing regulations. Successfully complete a Department of Human Services (Early Child Division) approved basic child care course within three months of employment; complete the minimum required number of annual training hours as required by DHS.

Maintain membership in professional organizations (local, state, and national). Actively participate in local early childhood education activities. Attend workshops, seminars, conferences and graduate course that promote one's professional growth; share ideas and knowledge acquired with co-workers and other professionals.

Keep current on local, state and national Early Childhood Education and child care issues. Conduct self in a respectful, cooperative manner while representing the Learning Center and its programs on campus, within our community and state. Continually engage in self-reflection/evaluation procedures Continually engage in Learning Center evaluation processes, advocating for ways to improve practices and procedures.

Required Competencies Must be able to move and carry furniture, lift, carry and manipulate up to 50 lbs Ability to restrain a child if they are engaging in aggressive or dangerous behavior Must be able to play comfortably sitting on the floor or in child-size chairs, holding a child on one's lap, and playing outdoors for long lengths of time in both hot and cold weather, etc. Must be able to complete tasks such as diapering, going up and down stairs, getting children into and out of wheelchairs, etc. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Demonstrated ability to work with persons from culturally-diverse backgrounds Minimum Requirements/Qualifications Associates degree in the field of early childhood education or child development.

Can be substituted with one of the below combinations: Option 1 A Bachelor's degree in any field AND six months' experience in a preschool setting Option 2 An Associate's degree in any field AND one year's experience in a preschool setting Option 3 Current Child Development Associate Credential AND 120 hours of department-approved early childhood training; Approved by one of the following organizations: Department of Human Services Growing Futures Childcare Licensing Bright & Early North Dakota 8 semester hours or 12 quarter hours in early childhood education or child development; Successful completion of a criminal history background check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identify and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
