JOB ASSIGNMENT: Pre-K Counts Program
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Pre-K Counts Family and Health Assistant's reports to the Pre-K Counts Program and Recruitment Coordinator.
JOB DEFINITION: The Pre-K Counts Family and Health Assistant's main responsibilities are to facilitate relationships between the home, the parents, and community agencies in the areas of health, nutrition and social services and to coordinate enrollment activities to maintain full enrollment in the Pre-K Counts program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Social Services
- Be familiar with current Pre-K Counts regulations, policies and legislation in the fields of social services, parent involvement, health and nutrition.
- Organize and coordinate parent/family participation through Orientations, Open House and Positive Behavior Support Parent Events.
- Acquaint staff and parents with existing network of social service agencies, and help families locate needed services.
- Identify needs as expressed by the family, make appropriate referrals, complete necessary records and follow-up.
- Coordinate with outside agencies as needed.
- Attend trainings as required.
- Health
- Assist parents in obtaining required health, dental and immunization records for individual children.
- Coordinate, and implement vision screenings for all children.
- Enrollment
- Establish and maintain an outreach recruitment process, which systematically ensures enrollment of eligible children.
- Verify income documentation in order to determine program eligibility.
- Fill enrollment vacancies as quickly as possible: always within 20 days of the vacancy occurring.
- Follow all state regulations related to Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts Statute, Regulations and Guidelines.
- Monitor classroom attendance and work with families to eliminate barriers to regular attendance for all children.
- Maintain attendance data collection through Pelican system.
- Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
- Complete site monitoring visits for all Pre-K Counts Program sites occuring three times per year.
- Assist Pre-K Counts Administrative Assistant with CACFP monthly claim submissions through the PEARS website.
- Maintain current physical on a biennial schedule.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Substitute in the classroom as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned by Pre-K Counts Program and Recruitment Coordinator.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in social services, education or health-related area or an Associate's degree and 2-3 years relevant experience.
- Must have an interest in and concern for children and their families. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff members, children and their families and community representatives.
- Experience in data collection and Microsoft Office systems preferred. Must be current in CSIU policies , Pre-K Counts procedures, FERPA and HIPPA policies.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current, approved Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate, specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
- Current, approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours training every five (5) years.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS: This professional is required to keep abreast of current trends relating to social, human, nutrition or family services. Additionally, they must attend regularly scheduled full staff meetings, participate in local and state training that is pertinent to their job assignment and participate in Pre-K Counts initiatives and CSIU sponsored activities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the ability to travel to offsite work locations.
- Must be able to arrive on schedule at various locations over a wide geographic area and perform required home visits.
- Must have strength and ability to carry equipment long distances (approximately 30 lbs.).
- Must be able to tolerate some bending, stooping and squatting.
- Must be able to assist children with self-help skills.
TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:
- This is a full time, non-exempt position. Staff work 200 days per year, 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week. This may include evening meeting and overnight trips.
- Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
