Job description

In this role, the Power Plant Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for executing inspections, preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment to maintain campus utility production and distribution systems of steam, chilled water, condensate, and domestic water while optimizing operating costs. Also responsible for assisting others as necessary to maintain reliable and safe plant operation. This position is located in Washington, DCand reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform inspections, preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance of mechanical components of the campus’ utility production and distribution systems of steam, chilled water, condensate, and domestic water  
  • Maintenance tasks may include but are not limited to mechanical alignment, lubrication, inspection and vibration monitoring 
  • Coordinate with the activities of other operations or trade personnel as required 

 

 

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent with 4+ years of related experience in the maintenance, rebuilding, and repairing of mechanical equipment, or the equivalent combination of training and experience is required due to the complexity of the plant systems 
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical prints
  • Ability to read Process and Identification drawings

Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record

Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

The outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions

Ability to meet highest attendance requirements

Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally

Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

Ability to use a company computer, calculator

Could involve some lifting / up to 50 lbs

Ability to push and a pull of objects   

Ability to perform work in an abnormal sitting or standing position  

Ability to perform work inside confined spaces, manholes and crawl spaces 

Willingness to develop technical proficiency in some software applications (Maximo, SAP, ADP)

Designated as an emergency employee and must report to work regardless of the university’s operating status 

Incumbent must be capable of supporting snow removal operations

Ability to adhere to the highest safety standards 

Ability to follow directions when assisting other Power Plant trades

Work from drawings and be capable of systematically and logically locating the problem when drawings are not available

Must understand basic electrical, piping, and machining principles and practices  

Must be able to use all common hand tools, drill press, electric drills, hand and bench grinders

  • Salary Range: $38,335 – $93,990 USD, annually 
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors 
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
