POSTDOCTORALSCIENTIST - MOLECULAR VIROLOGY

Texas Biomedical is seeking a full-time postdoctoral scientist in Molecular Virology inDr. Diako Ebrahimi's lab in San Antonio,Texas. The candidate will be working on an NIH funded project to investigatedonor-specific virus-host interaction mechanisms focusing on the role ofAPOBEC3 enzymes in immunity against immunodeficiency viruses across humans andnonhuman primate models. This position provides unique research and careerdevelopment opportunities across disciplines including virology, genomics, evolution,and bioinformatics.

TexasBiomedical Research Institute provides unique research and trainingopportunities including access to exceptional resources such as BSL3 and BLS4 labs,SNPRC (Southwest National Primate Research Center), a vigorous infectiousdisease program on SARS-CoV-2, HIV, malaria, schistosomiasis, Ebola, Zika,hepatitis C and TB, outstanding imaging, computational, and sequencingfacilities, and several career development programs including grant writing andleadership courses. Texas Biomed faculty have adjunct appointments at twouniversities in San Antonio (UTSA and UTHSCSA), which provide additionaltraining and career development opportunities for employees at Texas BiomedicalResearch Institute.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Prepares and assists in the preparation of grants, manuscripts, and reports.
 Independently designs, troubleshoots, and conducts molecular biology and virology experiments involving techniques such as transfection, infectivity assays, flow cytometry, microscopy, PCR, Western blot, cell culture, ELISA, RNA immunoprecipitation and sequencing, CRISPR, and next generation sequencing (single cell and long-read sequencing).
 Maintains record of all experiments performed and data collected to ensure quality and integrity of data.
 Presents research findings at seminars and scientific meetings
 Works in a cross-disciplinary team and contributes to collaborative studies
 Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:  Required: Ph.D. in molecular biology,virology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related discipline. Experience instandard lab techniques and molecular virology methods. Willing to learn newtechniques required for the projects, Excellent communication skills in English(verbal and written)

Preferred: Experience in BSL2+; experience in working with HIV and SIV; knowledge of dataanalysis, standard statistical tests, bioinformatics; familiarity withdatabases such as Los Alamos, UCSC Genome Browser, 1000Genomes, TCGA, and ICGC.

Thisis a full-time salaried (exempt) position.  Texas Biomedical Research Institute business hours are Monday throughFriday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasionalafter hours or weekend cell culture maintenance will be necessary.  Texas Biomedical Research Institute iscommitted to a drug-free workplace.  Pre-employment drug screen is required.
