About Us:

At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Job Description:

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Immunogenetics.

This position will study mitochondrial and peroxisomal lipid metabolism of pancreatic islet beta cells in models of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. The candidate will be required to work independently on their individual research projects and as team member on general lab projects.

Job Responsibilities
  • Generation and breeding of novel transgenic mouse models of altered lipid metabolism.
  • Specialized animal procedures (e.g. glucose tolerance tests) and isolation of pancreatic islet tissue.
  • Molecular biology techniques including construction of adenoviruses, ELISAs, immunohistochemistry, and other biochemical and molecular laboratory techniques (e.g nucleic acid extraction and purification, cDNA synthesis, western blots, and qPCR).
  • Working with in vitro models e.g. culture of cell lines, as well as rodent and human islets.
  • Communication of scientific findings e.g presentation of data at lab meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Data analysis, manuscript preparation, and development of grant writing skills.
  • Training of students and other laboratory staff.


Required Qualifications

PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or equivalent biological sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques in mammalian systems and experience handling and working with mice.
