Pool Maintenance Shift Leader - Seasonal

Recreation Department Mission Statement - The City of Independence Recreation Department is committed to excellence in programming, facilities, and service while improving the quality of life within our community.

The primary responsibility of the City of Independence Pool Maintenance is to perform routine maintenance and cleaning of all Recreation Department Aquatic facilities including pools, pool deck, buildings, locker rooms, and all restrooms. The shift leader also promotes, through daily actions, a safety focused attitude and productive work environment for the pool maintenance staff - leading them through successful task completion.

Employment Details

• Pay rate $14/hr - $17/hr
• Seasonal Employment Dates: May 1 - September 15
• Regular raises for staff that return consecutive seasons
• Work Schedule
  • Pool is open 7 days per week
  • Second Shift: 2-10pm, Weekdays and Weekends
  • Mandatory Weekend rotation
• Seasonal Part-Time, 25-40 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Regular testing and maintaining pool water chemistry to health code standards
• Completing preventative maintenance on filtration and chemical systems
• Troubleshooting/resolving pool filtration and chemical issues as they occur
• Daily cleaning duties - including vacuuming, skimming, and brushing pools; cleaning/scrubbing pool deck, cleaning in and around pool buildings including locker rooms; emptying trash; moving/restocking supplies

• Interact/respond to supervisor or resident/guest requests as needed
• Train and lead pool maintenance staff; promote teamwork and workplace pride
• Coordinate with management to bring attention to areas in need of repair/improvement

Knowledge and Skills

• Self-motivated and willingness to be a leader
• Decision Making Skills
• Minimum 2 years of experience in swimming pool maintenance
• Commercial Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred but not required
• Must pass a drug test and background check
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in a mixture of weather conditions and stay on feet for extended periods of time
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol test along with background check required, minors require parental or guardian consent.
