The Plumber advances Denver Zoo's mission and goals by performing skilled plumbing and assisting the Master Plumber in a variety of facility and maintenance areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, maintenance and repair work on all plumbing systems.
- Install or alter new or upgraded plumbing systems for the purpose of construction or remodeling according to specifications.
- Operate various hand and power tools: saws, routers, drills, Pro-Press, jetters, power snakes, etc.
- Inspect facilities to determine plumbing related construction, maintenance, or repairs needed.
- Create material lists and schedules/coordinates jobs with animal staff.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Run errands to pick up supplies, materials, etc. as needed.
- Clean and maintains facilities.
- Ensure compliance with current City of Denver regulations, codes, and industry standards.

Other Responsibilities and Duties
- In the absence of Master Plumber, prioritize work orders and assigns work to plumbing staff.
- Purchase plumbing-related equipment, tools, chemicals and materials.
- Help to coordinate outside contractors, including ensuring compliance with the Outside Contractor Code of Conduct, communicating methods of procedure (MOP's), tracking project schedule, and performing quality control.
- Perform various duties as assigned.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Ability to read and work from manuals, blueprints, written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment.
- Background in rough and finish plumbing. Experience in plumbing infrastructure a plus.
- Good diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess good interpersonal communications skills.
- Ability to work with little supervision.
- Consistently provides exceptional customer service, which includes maintaining a positive and helpfulattitude. This applies to all interpersonal encounters, including but not limited to Maintenance
- Department staff, other Zoo departments, guests, volunteers, contractors/vendors, outside relations.
Position Conditions
- Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Clear driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Compensation
Hourly rate for this position is $21.85 - $29.23 (hourly).
