About The Position
The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will provide support of research protocols, including Good Clinical Practice and FDA-regulated clinical trials. Records all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses and analytical conclusions of analyses. The PA will screen patients in a clinical setting to determine if the patients are appropriate candidates to participate in the research study. Screening will include medical record review, obtaining a history and physical exam and ensuring patients meet all inclusion and exclusion criteria.
- Provide clinical support to the Principal Investigator of the clinical trial
- Screen and evaluate new study participants to ensure they are eligible for the study
- Provide direct care to research study participants during study visits, to include follow-up visits
- Work in both the in-patient and outpatient setting
- Assess acute and non-acute clinical problems and toxicities
- Take histories and physical examinations, order and interpret data obtained from diagnostic tests and laboratory studies, order the appropriate medications and treatments, and provide patient and staff education
- Participate in clinical rounds and conferences
- Provide in-depth documentation through written progress notes and dictation summaries
- Maintain a high level of clinical competence in an area of specialty practice integrating the art and science of both nursing and medicine into practice
- May serve as an associate investigator on protocols
- Contribute to the implementation of specific protocols and the clinical management of patients on protocol
- Collaborate with other disciplines to obtain and maintain the informed consent/assent of patients on research protocols prior to implementing invasive procedures
- Interview and screen patients for entry onto protocols. Monitor and document response to therapy and communicate findings to principal investigators with recommendations for appropriate intervention
- Minimum Master’s degree obtained from completing an accredited 2-year Physician Assistant program required
- Must be licensed physician or licensed nurse
- 5+ years’ experience in clinical research with direct volunteer medical care and oversight, to include, but not limited to volunteer medical screening, determination of volunteer medical fitness to participate, admistrtion of test article to volunteers, identification and tracking of volunteer adverse events
- Demonstrate competence in oral and written communication
- Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor
- Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner
- Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office Software
- Knowledge in the areas of research licensed nursing, regulatory affairs, and clinical safety as related to clinical studies, healthcare management, and technology-based training and education programs
