DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Obtain blood specimens from patients and employees through venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and arterial blood gas collections using established laboratory procedures.
- Process and handle blood, urine, stool and other body fluid specimens.
- Provide care for the infant, pediatric, young adult, adult or geriatric patient.
- Ensure specimen integrity through proper technique, specimen storage and handling.
- Properly initials, dates and records blood collection time at proper collection times including timed, Stat and routine collections.
- Perform phlebotomy on nursing home, house call, and wellness patients.
- Order and receive tests into Laboratory Information System.
- Ensure excellent delivery of customer service to all laboratory customers through quick, efficient and thorough responses to requests for services or information.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and positive attitude with all members of the healthcare team, families and patients to include properly explaining test and procedure.
- Keep phlebotomy area, drawing trays and nursing units neat, clean and well stocked with supplies.
- Meets lab service goals as scheduled or report problems to director.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Basic computer skills (mouse, keyboard, internet).

- Ability to work independently and as member of a team.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety, quality control and specimen handling guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected.
EDUCATION
- Minimum Education: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and graduate of an accredited phlebotomy training facility or equivalent experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum Experience: Preferred Phlebotomy training program clinical rotation and/or 1 year experience.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
- Certificate from an accredited phlebotomy training facility or proof of equivalent training preferred; valid Driver’s License.
