This role will be responsible for development and on-going management and administration of clinical programs that have profound impact on member experience, outcomes, and affordability initiatives in the pharmaceutical space. The Pharmacy Programs Manager is responsible for managing, coordinating, and completing projects across various functional areas and business units related to drug therapies. The role will provide subject matter expertise in project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, facilitation, and other areas of expertise based on established project management techniques. Presentations to management on project updates, project cycle, and expected results required. Collaboration with stakeholders across UHC, Optum, and Care Delivery Organizations to ensure projects are aligned with core strategies and goals, remain within the scope of work, delivered on deadline, and supported through implementation. Participation in annual business planning and end-to-end designs of pharmacy programs and strategies required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ability and experience to function well in a highly matrixed team environment
  • Ability to ask thought-provoking questions, define the needs of the customer, and develop innovative solutions to meet them
  • Ability to develop and manage business plans to achieve objectives and milestones
  • Ability to lead and drive large, complex projects to achieve key business objectives 
  • Act as a liaison between internal and external teams to help steer work stream communications to ensure response integrity
  • Ensure alignment and understanding of program/project scope and objectives with the organization's strategic objectives and the key stakeholder/customer
  • Influence senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches that may have segment-wide impact
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical products or a clinical background with business acumen preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in coordinating and leading high-level meetings, including developing post-meeting minutes, charter documentation, etc
  • Prior work experience working with pharmacists desirable
  • Proven ability to influence team members and leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches
  • Provide subject matter expertise and operational support to internal business partners
  • Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • 5 years professional project management experience that includes 3 years leading and directing project tasks
  • 3 years working in a PBM, Health plan, Managed Care organization, or provider practice with project management experience.  Working knowledge of drugs, CMS, and healthcare
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheets, and Visio 
  • Demonstrates solid prioritization, attention to detail, effective multi-tasking, verbal/written communication and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to create an effective team environment, build solid relationships
  • Demonstrates solid in solving problems and issues in a matrix environment and communicating effectively at all levels of an organization

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in business, public health or another related field
  • PMP certified
