The PCB Designer is responsible for all aspects of Printed Circuit Board design for assigned Neptune products. The PCB Designer works with Engineers to determine PCB outline and stack-up, place components, perform critical and bulk routing, and ensure mechanical fit of Printed Circuit Assemblies. The PCB Designer works closely with PCB fabricators and Contract Manufacturers to ensure quality and on-time delivery of Printed Circuit Boards and Assemblies. The PCB Designer also works to resolve any production issues pertaining to PCB design and may help direct contract PCB design resources when supplemental staffing is needed.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and layout of Printed Circuit Boards following industry standards and vendor guidelines to ensure that PCBs meet project requirements and are manufacturable with high yields and acceptable costs.
  • Entering and maintaining schematics in System Capture and HDL as required by Hardware Engineering.
  • Developing the silk-screen, applying reference designators, orientation marks, labels, and related information for all assigned PCB designs.
  • Running design rule checks, participating in design reviews, and eliminating errors before release to ensure the integrity of the designs.
  • Preparing all deliverables required for production, including Gerber files, ODB++, drill charts, fabrication and assembly drawings, etc.
  • Providing complete and accurate release packages for all assigned PCB assemblies.
  • Implementing ECOs as required to keep designs current and ensure retention of all previous design history when changes are made.
  • Converting legacy schematics and PCB Designs to Cadence Allegro as needed.


Qualifications:

  • BS with at least 3 years’ relevant experience, or AS with at least 5 years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of training and relevant experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of PCB Design and Fabrication processes and tools, including determination of PCB stack-up and fabrication notes.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of hardware design, including experience with Schematic Capture.
  • Fundamental understanding of electronic circuits, components, and packages is required. Knowledge of RF and high frequency signals is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience designing complex digital, analog, and mixed-signal PCBs.
  • Experience working with PCB Vendors and Contract Manufacturers throughout fabrication and assembly of PCB designs.
  • Experience using Cadence Allegro v17.2 or later is required.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and best practices is required. CID certification is preferred.
