RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Responsible for layout and routing of Avid PCBAs, including:
- Manage internal PCB Layout employee and manage external layout services when needed
- Perform PCB placement and route when workload allows
- Prepare boards for layout/route by assembling and reviewing data, insuring mechanical and schematics are ready
- Review boards after internal or external layout before release
- Review designs for manufacturability, working with PCBA fabricators and Contract Manufacturers
- Estimate board complexity and maintain PCB board backlog and estimated start and completion dates. Communicate layout work backlog and feasible schedules to engineering, project management and manufacturing.
- Review change orders to understand if they affect PCB
- Maintain PCB layout and verification tools
- Review project status, development plans, and NPI activities to insure PCB development is properly planned for and implemented
- Review schematics and mechanical designs to understand PCB requirements and constraints
- Incorporate DFM feedback and solutions to MFG yield or field issues
- Review internal change orders to confirm CAD library completeness and any dependencies or updates needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of hardware development process and product lifecycle and NPI
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical design process and tools.
- Deep knowledge of PCB layout processes, tools, and industry best practices
- Understanding of current PCBA fabrication process, geometry limitations, and DFM requirements.
- Understanding of contract manufacturing solder process and DFM requirements
- Experience and success in high-speed signal routing, analog placement and routing, and power distribution
- Working knowledge of component manufacturing, distribution, purchasing and life cycles
- Excellent communication skills, verbally, written, and in person.
- Ability to work with and manage people in multiple time zones and in different cultures.
- Demonstrated ability to work with all parts of the organization, including mechanical and electrical engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and product management as well as external suppliers.
- Demonstrated ability to influence across organizational lines: to escalate issues, to influence toward correct process, and guide into correct results
- Experience with component engineering and CAD support is desired
- Experience documenting and supporting engineering development process and tools is desired
- Experience managing design reviews and product lifecycle is desired
