Pbx Operator

General Description:

The PBX Operator is responsible for answer and transferring incoming calls to GRMC, announcing emergency codes, monitoring the hospital alarm system, and performing various clerical duties.  Monitors security cameras, provides excellent service to all customers and presents a positive image of Gila Regional Medical Center. Answers the main hospital telephones, pages staff and physicians in emergency or per policy, and performs duties of PBX Operator per departmental policy and procedure guidelines. 

Performs related work and duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions:

Essential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable.

•  Responsible for remaining aware of disaster plan and procedure to follow in the event of a drill or an actual disaster occurs
•  Manages the hospital alarm system and responds to emergency alarms, including fire, oxygen alarms, Panic alarms, generator alarms, tissue alarms and any alarms added to the room.
•  Responsible for following protocols with all emergency alarms and emergency phone calls.
•  Monitors video cameras in live feed for any potential threats to hospital areas being monitored, following protocol for any concerns
•  Operates the switchboard (phone) and intercom to relay incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls and messages.
•  Furnishes information/ phone numbers to callers as requested or makes enough inquiries necessary to refer the caller to the appropriate hospital personnel.
•  Performs general clerical duties, such as faxing, copying and filing.

Education & Training Requirements:

•  Minimum High School Diploma or GED
•  Basic understanding of telephone switchboard and PBX equipment and systems
•  Microsoft windows experience preferred
•  Excellent verbal communication skills required
• Experience with basic office equipment required (fax, copier)
