The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will administer the activities relating to the company payroll and benefits including: payroll processing, payroll tax filing, and administering benefit programs (including medical, vision, dental, 401(k), group life, flexible spending account, and paid leave). This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with all legal requirements of various payroll and employee benefit programs, including ensuring that quarter-end and year-end tax deadlines and procedures are followed timely and accurately.
*Role is remote, but candidates located in the Raleigh, NC area are preferred for occasional in-person collaboration with the Raleigh-based HR Team*
Responsibilities:
- Processes and reconciles US and Canadian payroll on a semi-monthly basis to ensure accuracy.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Partners with Paylocity to ensure taxes are paid timely and accurately.
- Responds to employee questions related to payroll.
- Manages all state unemployment and worker’s compensation accounts and compliance related activities.
- Assists in the administration of regulatory reports such as ACA, EEOC, Equal Pay, etc.
- Manages benefit enrollment activities to include onboarding/offboarding of new and departing teammates, and life event changes.
- Audits benefit enrollment reports and invoices for accuracy.
- Partners with benefits broker to answer employee benefits questions and solve issues with benefits administration.
- In partnership with the HR Team, conducts employee benefit orientation meetings.
- Assists with the benefits open enrollment process.
- Manages the 401(k) plan and all reporting and compliance requirements.
- Processes all year-end filings including 1095-C, W-2s and 401(k) testing.
- In partnership with the HR Team, assists with processing leave-of-absence requests and disability accommodations requests.
- Maintains accurate and organized employee records for data and reporting purposes.
- Other duties as needed.
- 3+ years of payroll and benefits experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including multi-state preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
- Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and benefits preferred
- Experience working with an HRIS such as Paylocity, ADP, UKG, Workday, etc. is required
