Summary of Duties:Reports to the Town Center Superintendent and under general direction, plans and supervises the Town Center Ranger program, the inspections of the parks, pathways and recreation facilities, amenities, physical plants, equipment and improvements.
Essential Employee Responsibilities:During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Duties:
- Respond to customer requests, work orders and customer calls for service.
- Coordinate maintenance and construction with other activities such as operations, recreation programs, tournaments, leagues, casual park activities, and daily office area activities.
- Inspect and analyze work methods, levels of productivity, and maintenance standards and institute improvements for greater efficiency, economy, and quality, maintain records and make reports with high a level of competency.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications for the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies, including RFQ and purchase order development.
- Observe and enforce safety precautions and safety rules and regulations; require safe working procedures by subordinates; maintain work areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition; operate maintenance equipment as required.
- Supervise, inspect, and monitor landscape, grounds maintenance, waterway, and forestry contractors.
- Supervise and assist in maintaining grounds, landscapes and common areas by watering, mowing, aerating, top dressing, fertilizing, re-seeding, renovation, planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, and by other actions as necessary to keep parks and recreation grounds, landscape and common areas in the best possible condition.
- Supervise, assist and coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs on all required equipment and facilities.
- Maintain equipment and physical plants regularly and recommend improvements.
- Interview and select new employees, train subordinates in the technical aspects of landscape, grounds maintenance, forestry practices, open space reserves, etc.
- Interview and select new employees; train subordinates in the technical aspects of facility maintenance, inspect the parks and waterway facilities and common areas.
- Prepare timecards and payroll reports for all employees under supervision.
- Employee may be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays.
- This position is to be included in the on-call rotation for the Parks and Recreation Department and emergency response team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Town Center Ranger Specific Duties:
- Supervise, coordinate, implement and continue to evolve Town Center Ranger Program.
- Assist in the preparation of the Town Center Ranger section of the annual budget and maintenance management program, and assist in monitoring this section of the budget and plan.
- Interview and select new employees; train subordinates according to the Town Center Ranger Manual
- Supervise, inspect, and monitor landscape contractors who operate within Town Center Parks.
- Supervise, monitor, and coordinate Town Center maintenance systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 21 part-time Town Center Rangers and 2 full-time Lead Town Center Rangers which work 364 days a year, 22 hours of the day. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.

Education: Associate degree (A. A.) in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Park Administration or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: Over three years up to and including five years related experience with two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess or obtain within first ninety (90) days of employment a valid Texas driver's license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
- Must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within 6 months of hire.
