HOURLY RATE:   $16.00 - 21.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)

SUMMARY: This is a weekend and holiday hourlyposition with the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department.  The job location is Bobcat Ridge Natural Area,which is about 10 miles west of Fort Collins and is located 8429 W. CR32C,Loveland, CO.  The Parking Aid and RangerAssistant will work primarily in the parking lot to manage limited parkingresources, greet, and provide information to visitors.  Maintenance duties include checking trailconditions on foot, stocking brochures, vault toilet cleaning, operating sideby side/ATV, trail and fence repair, trash and litter removal, installation of signs,construction and repairs of public improvements, snow shoveling and/or plowing andweed control.
The employee is expected to work 20 hours per week or less andmay occasionally work additional hours for special events.  Normal working hours will be 8AM - 6PM.  Employee will reportto Bobcat Ridge Natural Area. 
Thisis an hourly position that does not provide sick leave, insurance or retirementbenefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:     
The followingduties and responsibilities of this position are illustrative of the primaryfunctions.
These are not intendedto be all inclusive.
-Direct and control vehicular traffic entering natural area parking lot; 
-Greet visitors and provide visitors with brochures, maps, directions, opening and closing hours and information on recreational opportunities;
-Work under varying degrees of stress for extended periods of time in an outdoor environment;
-Answer visitors' questions about the natural area, wildlife, natural resources, and surrounding areas;
-Advise visitors of natural areas rules and regulations;
-Communicate with the on-duty Ranger, Volunteer Ranger Assistants and other Natural Area staff via two-way radio to request -assistance or report an incident;
-Call for emergency response when necessary;
-Operates side by side/ATV;
-Operate electronic gates;
-Perform vault toilet cleaning;
-Remove trash and litter;
-Maintain data log, enter data into an Excel spreadsheet;
-Stock brochures and maps;
-Prepare and maintain records and reports. Keep daily records of observations, activities, incidents, public contacts, unusual wildlife, resource damage, safety hazards, etc.;
-Perform minor maintenance such as maintenance of fences, gates, signs, trails, and other structures as required;
-Perform landscape maintenance including mowing, watering, pruning, and weed control;
-Operate a variety of light equipment including mowers and weed whips; perform preventative maintenance of tools and equipment used in natural area grounds maintenance including mowers, weed whips, hand tools, etc. 
-Maintain a safe work environment; 
-Perform other related duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS ANDREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
-Minimum high school degree or GED.
-Minimum age 18.
-Valid driver's license.
-Ability and willingness to work weekend and holiday hours. 
-Ability to work additional hours required for special events and emergency situations.
-Ability to use computer and other standard office equipment.
-Ability to work with minimal supervision.
-Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
-Ability to greet and communicate with a wide-variety of visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and helpful manner.
-Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, outside professionals, and the general public.
-Ability to control and direct vehicular traffic in parking lot.
-Ability to become familiar with natural areas regulations, management plans, and cultural and ecological resources.
-Ability to read, interpret and explain a map.
-Ability to recognize need for emergency personnel and stay calm in emergency situations.
-Ability to handle visitor conflict and diffuse situations and/or call for assistance.
Education and Experience:  High School or general education degree (GED)required.  Six months of customer servicerelated work preferred. 
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as natural area rules andregulations, property and trail maps.  Abilityto write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and answer questions effectively before visitors orfellow employees.  Ability to informvisitors of natural area rules and regulations, cultural, natural andecological resources.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructionsfurnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to maintain a log and enter data into a spreadsheet. 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Current Colorado Driver's License and be atleast 18 years old.
Physical Demands: The employee must have manual dexterity to operate a computer, cellphone, and a two-way radio.  Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand;walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch, orcrawl.  The employee is frequentlyrequired to sit, reach with hands and arms, carry, talk, hear, and traverseuneven surfaces and terrain.  Theemployee is occasionally required to climb, balance, twist, push, andpull.  The employee must have manualdexterity to operate tools and motor and manual vehicles.  The employee must regularly lift and/or moveup to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionallylift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics describedhere are representative of those an employee encounters while performing theessential functions of this job.  Whileperforming the majority of the duties, the employee will be sitting or standingoutdoors in the parking lot or at the trail head. While performing the dutiesof the job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts andoutside weather conditions, sometimes severe in nature.    The employee is frequently exposed tovehicular fumes or airborne particles, and vibrations.
