If you love talking to people, working outdoors and have some experience in customer service and grounds maintenance, you might be a great addition to our park operations team as a full-time Park Worker. In this position you would play an important role in our commitment to offering safe, welcoming destinations where all visitors feel welcome.

Work area: Historic Cemetery and Nature Park Portfolio

Work week/Schedule:

  • Wednesday-Saturday, 6:00am-4:30pm
*Shifts include a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

The work schedule for these positions is subject to change, in accordance with Article 10 of the LUINA Local 483 and Metro collective bargaining agreement.

Work Locations: This position will report directly to Borland Field Office (2661 SW Borland Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062)to begin their daily work assignments. Work assignments will be conducted within the Historic Cemetery and Nature Park portfolio.

Other work locations as assigned are: Blue Lake Regional Park Marine Facilities
Oxbow Regional Park Glendoveer Fitness Trail

Note: Blue Lake Regional Park, Oxbow Regional Park, and the Borland Office are not on bus routes and public transportation in the area is limited.

As a Park Worker you will:
  • Assists in providing a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.
  • Provides general customer service, such as providing directions and answering questions; provides information and assistance at picnics, campsites, weddings, special events and cemeteries.
  • Explains park rules and regulations, and monitors restricted use areas. Calls Park Ranger or supervisor for enforcement, citation and first-aid/emergency response or other similar health and safety issues.
  • Ensures grounds are clean and orderly. Cleans and maintains restrooms.
  • Assists with simple, routine garden work.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties around storage yards and buildings.
  • Performs facility maintenance.
  • Drives trucks with trailers to transport equipment to various parks and cemeteries locations. Assists Park Rangers in opening and closing facilities and buildings.
  • Assists with set-up and tear down for events. Assists with traffic control.

  • Understands and follows verbal and written instructions at a level sufficient to perform the essential functions; ability to speak another language is preferred.
  • Completes work efficiently and in the prescribed manner following a brief training period. Flexible; adjust to varying work environments, job tasks and methods of instructions Stands for long periods of time on a hard surface.
  • Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. and perform strenuous physical labor.
  • Properly and safely operates tools and equipment; ability to work on ladders. Works in all weather conditions, including heat, cold and inclement weather. Works quickly and efficiently.
  • Works a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Performs all position essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Works assigned schedule and exhibit regular and predictable attendance Works in a safe manner and follow safety policies, practices and procedures
  • Complies with Metro policies, procedures and applicable work rules; applicable law and collective bargaining agreements.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate or sufficient education to demonstrate the ability to read instructions and perform routine math with accuracy AND
  • Customer service experience in a public setting OR
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities
  • Special Requirements:
    • A valid driver's license.

Driving Record Check:
The candidate selected for the position will need to pass a Driving Record check prior to being hired. Speeding tickets do not necessarily preclude employment and will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

  • Cashiering Experience
COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATION

Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro's internal equity review process, and the candidates' qualifications, the appointment will typically be made between $17.66 - $18.79 per hour. The full-salary range for this position is enter $17.66 - $22.53 per hour.

This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by LiUNA union. It is classified as a Park Worker . Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
