This position falls under the classification Seasonal Park Ranger 1.
What is a Seasonal Park Ranger?
We recruit for Seasonal Park Ranger positions each year. These positions generally work during our busiest time of year, May through October, when visitors flock to enjoy our beautiful parks. However, each park is unique and the duration of seasonal positions varies slightly from park to park.

What you will do:
As a Park Ranger 1 you will assist in the protection, maintenance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment, and systems.
In this role, you will perform a variety of park operational tasks such as: janitorial work, landscape maintenance, facility maintenance, safety, and visitor services. Some work may require skills in: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, equipment repair, and landscape maintenance. Additionally, specialized skills in park maintenance and operations may be required. On a task specific basis, you may guide the work of individuals or teams composed of volunteers, seasonal, and/or temporary state park employees.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
- An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
Special Requirements:
- To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
- You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment

- Skill in performing plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and grounds keeping tasks including the safe and productive use of related tools, materials and equipment.
- Ability to work independently while educating the public about, and requesting compliance with, park rules and policies.
- Skill and experience using computerized reservation systems to register guests in a campground setting
- Skill in reconciling fees in a campground setting
- Leadership experience and skills working with diverse work teams including seasonal staff, other permanent staff, volunteers, youth crews, or the general public.
- Understanding of the need to work with partner agencies including: state , federal, tribal and interagency partners.

- The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
