To Apply
If you are interested in pursuing this position, please follow the application instructions carefully. If you need this announcement in an alternate language or format, would like to request accommodation or assistance in the application or assessment process, or if you have questions please contact your recruiter listed on this job announcement.

Application process:
Applicants must apply online with Public Health AND Public Safety Testing (PST). You will be required to submit applications with both agencies. For more information about the written exams and to apply online with PST, please visit their website at: http://www.publicsafetytesting.com

PST will conduct a general knowledge exam (known as the FST or Firefighter Selection Tool which does not require any firefighting knowledge or experience) and a basic EMT exam, which is based on AAOS: Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured (11th Edition). The written exams must be taken no later than February 28, 2023 in order for you to participate in this year's testing process. The most competitive applicants will be determined based on the written exam scores, and then invited to participate in the skills assessment center on Friday, March 31st to Sunday, April 2nd. The most competitive of these applicants will advance to physical ability test on Monday, April 3rd - Tuesday, April 4th, and Oral Board interviews on Wednesday, April 5th - Thursday, April 6th.

As a trial this year, candidates applying with a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) from PST will automatically pass their physical ability test if they advance to that step of the hiring process. The CPAT is NOT required and candidates without this completer will be required to complete the physical ability test.

The tentative start of employment date is Monday, July 10, 2023.

Applicants invited to the skills assessment center will need to provide copies of their current EMT or Paramedic Cert (State or National Registry) and Driver License in order to participate.

Examination Process:
Applicants who meet the posted minimum qualifications will complete their written examinations with Public Safety Testing (PST). These tests are available year-round with PST. The most competitive candidates will then move on to the skills assessment center. The most competitive candidates from the skills assessment center will be invited to complete a fitness evaluation if they do not have a valid CPAT. Finalists will be asked to an oral board with Paramedic Training.

Applicants who have completed and passed all parts of the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list. This list will remain in effect for one year or until a new examination is conducted and a list created.

The selected finalists will be required to pass a psychological fitness evaluation and a comprehensive physical examination, which includes an x-ray of the lower back, and a drug screening. Criminal, driving, and employment background checks will be conducted, and finalists must pass prior to starting the Paramedic Training Program.

Candidates applying with Public Health will need to respond to the supplemental question listed on the job posting. All work history will be verified. Any applicant that provides false information will automatically be disqualified from the process.

If you have questions about the application process please contact Tod Levesh, Division Chief / Medical Services Officer at (206) 263-2200 / tod.levesh@kingcounty.gov or Toni Curry, Senior Human Resources Analyst at (206) 263-4199 / tocurry@kingcounty.gov
