The large cardiothoracic surgery practice provides inpatient coverage at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, and Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Position Highlights:
- Practice is based in Southfield
- The new PA or NP would be part of a cardiothoracic team consisting of a cardiothoracic surgeon and 2-3 physician assistants
Responsibilities:
- Position entails inpatient rounding and consults, pre/post op outpatient visits and 1st Assist in the OR
- Call schedule 1 day per week and at least 1 weekend per month
- Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.
- Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.
- Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.

Physician Assistant:
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA.
- Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
Nurse Practitioner:
• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Education
Physician Assistant:
- Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Nurse Practitioner:
• Master's degree of Nursing required.
Qualifications
- Certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
- Recent and relevant 1-2 years experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery required; inpatient rounding, outpatient visits and 1st Assist in the OR
- Demonstrates a willingness and ability to work as a high-functioning, integrated health care team
